I cant remember the last time my son has been so happy and its lovely to see.
He has just picked up his new motorbike a 650 Triumph Street Triple something he has been wanting for months, ever since he had his previous one stolen and found then had to practically rebuild it himself.

I am kinda proud but at the same time worried as being a car sort of person bikes always seem so dangerous to me.
Got everything crossed he will be fine

Ah, that's nice for him. I can understand your concern. I hope he rides safely.

Not far from me there is a biker's gathering every Sunday in the summer. I'm a nervous passenger at the best of times (had a ride on the back of a scooter as a teenager which reduced me to tears) and the 'stunts' some of these bikers get up to on the dual carriageway are terrifying.

Great news , that he is happy . We are a biker family and if your brought up to respect bikes and use them the right way there shouldn't be any problems.
However I still do worry about hubby etc , as a lot of car drivers cause the accidents. Funny I don't worry myself if I'm riding the bike.
And my son who is six has a PW50 , I worry about when he's older , so I can understand your concerns , you just can't stop worrying as a mother.
My friend and I were talking one day and I said how I worried a bit when my son was riding his bike ( at a secure site with ambulance staff ) and she said she worried about her son horse riding as she is teaching him to jump. So I suppose whatever they choose to do we will always worry a bit .

I am with you all the way there wolf I have been on a bike once cant say I am rushing to repeat it but Sam says he will take me for a little ride round the block on the new one , biting my fingernails already.

I have not been bought up with bikes at all although I can see the appeal Shades of Easy Rider and the Great Escape I think or maybe it was the riders lol

He is generally a sensible boy and says his biggest fear is to drop the bike !!
I am surprised he didn't sleep in the garage with it last night had to wave him off this morning after being shown all round it again love him

Snap Sam picked up his new Suzuki Bandit yesterday we were in kent to negociate and we did ok. Sam has been riding from 16 years old he is 23 now. You will never stop worrying but i know Sam is confident and a proficiant rider so i accept the risks ( I didnt actually like it but he's adult) I know he is happy with it as he posted it on facebook.

Just trust in luck and judgement and make sure his leathers and helmet are good ones.

I took a BMW R80RT across the sahara desert, we were all bikie here but my 19 year old brother died on one. So I know what is the worse that can happen. But, you still cant stop them and it didnt stop me Im on the pilion next trip down I cant wait!!!

Thats funny my Sams biker friend rides a bandit too and Sam bought his first bike from a suzuki dealer in Kent. Gosh I am beginning to sound like I know what I am talking about lol

So sorry to here about your brother but i know you are right you cant stop them. When he got his first bike I told him I couldnt help him buy it but I would pay for him to have the right equipment to ride it as protected as possible.

My younger brother (another biker) took Sam out and bought him a leather jackett (Belstaff) and a super helmet plus took his Kawasaki 1200 at about 30 mph as Sam used his first bike.
Now Sam phones Kev about odd things to include bikes and advised him re this Bandit, we picked it up from Folkstone yesterday 2005/11,000 miles with a top box, immobiliser, heated grips superb condition £2700. We beat them across the head re waterproof jacket and trousers with knee's and elbows, thigh protection built in and another cool helmet and disc lock brake for £120. Mind you the £2700 was cash.

He then took off whilst we drove home via Ashford WTW (sewerage farm to you and me) and a Lindes factory in Basingstoke where I sat for hours with the dogs. Mind you did walk a bit as well and I feel asleep with them!!

My OH knows how to make weekends count with business meetings and we ate out at Clackett service station and Fleet - bet your all wishing you had my social life aren't you?? Once you have had one coffee and pannini thats more then enough.

It turns out that my brother in law Sams uncle seems to w nt to rekindle his interest in bikes and is now talking about getting one to ride with Sam.  Sam had already had BIL full leathers as unfortunately BIL is alittle bigger these days than he was at 21 ! lovely set of leather jacket and trousers that fit my Sam to a t  and were certainly more than he could afford just now. Sounds like you got a good deal there !
Your oh sounds like mine on my birthday we had to take the cat to a specialist vet in Bedfordshire we had lunch in the service station on the way as my birthday meal !
Interesting how what you expect or put up with changes over the years. i cant see my daughter allowing her boyfriend to get away with that.

One of my first dates! was in a hotel in Gloucester and at 7am in the morning the pile drivers started outside the window - the he went site to site to show me the jobs he had worked on. Ditto London, every time we go to Gatwick airport passing through Guildford he tells me he went to college there blah de blah!!

Good job Im a builder as well or we would have divorced years ago. But he can still be romantic and remember odd dates like 10th 10th when he moved in with me - Im still here after 20 years so he must still be doping something right! But real romance nope!!

OOhhh I haven't read any further, I just saw street triple!!!! I'm jealous, I want a speed triple sooo much, they even do one in pink!!! Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to touch the ground on it. My OH was talking to a bloke the other day who had a street triple, and he reckons it's even taller than the speed triple, so looks like I'd have to try the 1000cc rather than the 650cc which will upset him. My current bike is a 400, his is a 750 and I've been told in no uncertain terms that I can't have a bigger bike than him!
- By furriefriends Date 03.08.10 14:33 UTC
Sam says its no problem to touch the ground on he thought they were about the same but then he is 6ft I let you know if I get on it lol
- By Tadsy Date 03.08.10 16:10 UTC
Thanks - I need a leg extension, but then I'm only 5ft 2 and 2 thirds!! Ironically I could ride the OH's old bike, which was a Hyabusa (1300 cc) and stupidly fast, but then that was low and long (if that makes sense). OK when I say ride, I'm exaggerating as he did let me once put it away into the garage! I did have visions of careering through said garage, and bursting out the other side wearing an old wellington and with a garden chair on my head. But I managed to temper my enthusiasm with the throttle!
- By furriefriends Date 03.08.10 16:15 UTC
Love the picture of you with the old wellie and garden chair. and dont worry about the height I am the little one of the family 5ft 4" on a good day !
