Hi some advice My little girl came into season it will be 2 weeks on wed I thought this would be day 15 But my vet says that will be day 14 as the first day is day 0 Cause I missed last time I gave had her tested now 3 times last one being today Her result on 1 was only 1 and the result sat was just 2 My worry is that I will miss again Keep getting told there is no point in mainting when theg are so low but last time on day 15 we had missed by days maybe her result was 180 The bloods are taken by idex so I have been told they are the most reliable So tommorrow  even if bloods are still low do I take her for a mating and let nature get involved ??Or wait even longer for bloods to say I have been told it's the bloods to worry about not what day she us on ??  Panick Panick Whittle Whittle Any advice please x    

Personally I count day one on the first day that I see blood (they are swollen for some time before bleeding.)

Having boys myself, I rely on them to tell me what day a bitch is ovulating.  Which means that I don't have a wasted journey to my chosen stud.

As my girls vary so much, and don't always show the same behaviour every season, I know that one season a bitch isn't ready until day 19, and the next season it's day 8. 

How far away is the boy you're using?  If it isn't hundreds of miles away, I would ask him to tell you.

If the 1st reading you got was only 1ng/ml  then she is AT LEAST 8 or 9 days away so there is absolutely no point in  retesting again for 8 days.
You are correct,it does not matter how many days in season she is, it is the level of progesterone that is important

One of my bitches didnt ovulate till day 19 and the level was creeping up then went up very quickly so she was mated on day 18 and 20 and we were successful having a litter.

After this, her litter sister had a season and we had her blood tested, and she never ovulated through her season at all.  This last season, we had her swab tested and she was ready about day 15.  Each season is different.  Alot of bitches don't ovulate until after the season has finished so dont give up hope yet but if the stud was local, i'd be going over as often as possible as he might be a better indication as to when she will be ready.  But go after her season has finished too just incase if you dont get a mating beforehand.

I think you mean when peopel think the season is over.  A bitches season is the time she ovualtes and will mate, so it's not over 'til the fat lady sings' so to speak.

My Myka wasn't ready until days 18 - 20 when she had her litter.  This time she was mated on days 20 - 22, though she absorbed the small litter.

I would save your money and test again on Weds - going by the thoughts of levels increasing by 50% per day I would she would be ready for mating Friday.  Which will be day 17/18 which appears to be the norm for many breeds these days.

Hi retested yesterday and the results today had gone from 9.9 Tue  to 22.9 today ( wed)with a message of mate in 24 hours So i did take her today and haD a good mating i will take her again on Friday I hope i have it all covered Just panicking now 
i
