Thought I may as well ask on here.

I'm doing an adventure trip at the end of Aug in The Lakes and the start point is in Coniston at 10am!!

I've been looking at camp sites and also guest houses and tbh the camp sites are very reasonable in price(so they should be).

Now I was wondering how easy and in time would it take to drive from Windemere to Coniston as a friend wants to stay there.

Also any other recommendations from other areas not too far away.

It has been noted that a few of us would love a pub/bar within walking distance, cost is an issue and don't want to be paying more than £25pppn.
To me camping is the ideal, but one person is not so keen..

Windermere is one of the busiest  tourist areas in the lake district and you maybe hard pressed to find many places for less than £25 pppn in August. It is 6 miles form Coniston so not an overly long journey about 20-30 minutes

I stayed at Ambleside Youth Hostel. It is in a fantastic location right on the lake and it is only a short walk into Ambleside where there are plenty of pubs. Definitely recommend it.

You could look into joining the British Mountaineering Council and book their huts--just check whether pets are allowed, some don't let you bring them. See http://www.thebmc.co.uk/bmcNews/media/u_content/File/clubs_huts/huts/hut%20list%2023.07.10b.pdf for a list of sites. Extremely good value and loads of fun.

Check out the websits     www.iknow-lakedistrict.co.uk/.../coniston/all.../all_specialities/ , this site is full of reasonably priced places to stay, Coniston is just lovely, but check the weather guide before you go as there has been flooding reports in some parts.
Also Google Ramblers walks they follow some fantastic trails and routes in the Lakes.
Have a lovely time. I love the Lakes for walking. We are off to the Ingletonfalls on Sunday cant wait but thats more towards Yorkshire end. No-dog off lead then ha.
