Just a quick pick of your brains. Has anyone been to Paphos in Cyprus? we are planning a week in early Nov for a bit of a getaway. We are not Beachy folk preferring a bit of culture through the day...a nice snoooooze in the afternoon and a bit of music and night life later. We will get a car and have some trips out then hopefuly have a nice meal and a bit of music later. What d'u think? will Paphos suit the bill?

It is a fantastic side of the island. Its much quieter than the East side. No where near as "touristy". A fantastic place, I highly recommend a visit.

I was brought up in Cyprus its quite a small island you should be able to see much of it with the car.

Very nice
we stay at Pioneer Beach hotel just out of Paphos its adult only and very relaxing , you cannot fault the staff or the food there, you can walk into Paphos along the sea front in about forty or fifty minutes but there are lots of excellent hotels and the people are most kind and friendly .
We go in May before it gets too hot it can be rather quiet then but everything should be livening up now.
Hope you have a fantastic time.

We rented a house there for a summer after the war in 1974, and Paphos was a small fishing village where you could share your dinner with the pelicans on the pier--it isn't quite like that anymore! If you travel north along the coast you'll still find plenty of small friendly villages, nice places to eat and interesting wildlife rather than wild nightlife.

My family lived in Cyprus for several years. When I had the chance to take my own children to visit 5 years ago I chose to go to the north instead, which I have to say is by far more interesting in every way, far less touristy, every bit as friendly, not at all crowded and much cheaper. The Crusader castles are fantastic, the landscape is beautiful and very lush, the Karpaz peninsula has wild donkeys, sea turtles, empty white beaches, and the architecture on th Turkish side of Nicosia, a mix of Ottoman, Venetian and Lusignan styles, should be a World Heritage Site.

Oh we love the area .We stayed at Latchi a small village. The lovely thing about Cyprus is the variety of scenery. The beaches ar lovely but the Trodus mounrains offer some breath taking scenery. You may even get some snow :)

How lively are you wanting it to be Aileen? As it does get a lot quieter on the island during that time of the year, even in Ayia Napa..

Not heavy rock!!!! Just a nice bit of soothing entertainment suits us. We will be wandering down to Pathos harbour most evenings and I am sure there will be something to occupie us. We are staying at the Louis King Jason appartments.
Well done at Kinsdon Sue, I take it Ringo won BOB?

Apparently so. :-) You will need separate insurance, though.

No it was Blitz that got BOB. Ringo wasn't at this show.

Ooh and it sounds a wonderful holiday planned. I loved the Troodos mountains when I went years ago. :-)

Thanks for that link JG very interesting. Looks like we will be able to cross over from south to north and back without a problem.

I FOUND IT TO BE A DUMP TO BE HONEST VERY LITTLE TO SEE. WE WERE TOLD YOU MUST VISIT THE TROODOS MOUNTAINS, WE DID, THERE IS NOTHING UP THERE. THE MOUNTAINS HERE IN NORTH WALES ARE FAR NICER.

APHRODITES BATHS AWFUL. TOMBS OF THE KINGS WASTE OF MONEY

IF YOU WANT BEACHES GO TO THAILAND. IF YOU WANT CULTURE AND SIGHT SEEING GO TO ITALY.

Obviously not your kind of holiday then Sian. I have been to Italy and as I said if you had read my OP I do not like beach holidays so maybe it will suit me rather more than it did you!

I didn't realize you had already booked, sorry. I'm sure after a few Raki's you'll have a wonderful time! just joking. Not everywhere suits everybody, I'm very hard to please that's all.

Hope you have fun, we love going to Cyprus! If you find Paphos a little too noisy, though it's quite nice really, try Pissouri another time - plenty of good tavernas, Cyprus night in the village each week if you want some music and dancing, watersports down at the beach, and not far from places like Paphos, Limasole etc.
