right,it may sound silly but do you have any recomendations on coats.Having a newfie and the wet weather has made me think i need a good coat for the winter wet walks.i am usually a surf make hoody(cornish 28 year old)girl,but these are useless in rain.It has to have a good hood(cant get the fringe wet as it will curl and people will know i am not naturally straight haired lol) it has to be warm (i feel the cold)and it has to be waterproof.Dont mind colour or what i look like but nothing really loud and bright,any thoughts would be great,i dont mind the price as my bd is in sept so i will be treating myself,also any advice on good footwear as well for walkies(have learnt i cant walk a newfie in flip flops etc!)

Sorry cant help but I am an idiot read most of your post before I realised the coat was for you not your dog.
Wondered why he had afringe that needed straigtening  LOl

I like a Berghaus for the winter, you can zip a fleece into the coat for really cold days, Barbour do a good range too.

Hi joanne 1000, I have a Cascada jacket from Paramo that is perfect, not cheap but will last forever--very lightweight, waterproof (unless you plan to stand in driving rain for an hour or two), wicks moisture away from your body and is always warm. They do a range of reasonably subdued colours--see http://www.paramo.co.uk

Footwear: depends what you want! I swear by Inov-8 because they are incredibly light, amazingly durable and have great traction--if you wear a pair of 3 season boots on a long trek your legs will feel the difference. http://www.inov-8.com

I use them for most of the year--when I was fitter (and didn't have young dogs :O!) I used to do the 3 peaks several times a year and having light shoes is a blessing. I only switch when life gets gruesomely muddy (a pair of Hunter Sovereigns) or snowy/icy (Meindl Burma).

Flip flops indeed, heck I walk mine in my reefs, have done so most of the summer!! If I could live in them and uggs all year I would!!!

I have a great North Face jacket with zip in and out fleece, about £140, very similar to Berghaus.. Camping and outdoor shops for these brands, like Blacks..  I also have very curly hair and the hood is good on these, but with any damp condition it'll always frizz( if it's anything like mine)
Still putting my pennies together for some great hunting wellies.
Depends on the ground yr walking but normal wellies I'd slip over, muck boots are popular, the brand and also type from horse companies...

Neoprene booties would work down the beach ;-)...

I have various coats and jackets for the winter but when dog walking I usually wear my barbour or berghaus - both waterproof and warm.

I always buy Berghaus for my dog walking jackets. I have a light waterproof one for when it is warm but raining and a fleece lined waterproof one for winter. Wouldn't swap them for anything!!!

My winter one has a hood that has a slight peak on it so you can have your hood up but still actually see out and the rain doesn't drip on your face!!

well i think the berghaus is the way to go and i have found them on a discount website which does all labeled clothing for a fraction of the price :):)so now trying to decide which colour and style

Ive got two a decent Berghaus for really wet weather with wet weather trousers but expensive.

For other stuff I think you cant beat a wax cotton, my dear one is bright yellow and black but at £360 not for the faint hearted. But my wax cotton is scats own at about £50 and I dont get wet.

Try a firm called "Go"  for pretty keen prices and get the best you can afford. Ive worn my good coat in Antartica and in the artic so its waterproof ok!!

Plus decent boots, Ive got muck boots for torrential and Merrels for walking miles in!! (Whistler cocker has a waxed cotton as well but rugged Jake Border Collie goes mufti!!! but he's got teflon fur anyway.
