Topic Dog Boards / Showing / wee brag and a moan too
- By Blue Date 24.07.10 20:09 UTC
Took my new homebred pup to Leeds today for her first show, she won MPB (11 in the class) I was pleased with that of course BUT what is it with the stake classes.  I have entered them twice both times I can't get to them in time.

I went down and told the steward today I had to wait till the challenge.  What is the point of putting the stakes on right in the middle of judging.  they don't mind taking your money :-)  Moan over.   Just not enough time.

Putting pen to paper tonight in complaint.   I think travelling 460 miles to a show entitles me to moan at them :-D

Congratulations. Infuriating isn't it re the stakes. Would help if they indicated at time of entering what approximate time they might be, BUT then again they'd lose money as people would know of the clash.
We haven't managed to do many but it's always when you haven't entered that you find yourself able to have done!!

I have only managed to get to two out of 5 so have now stopped bothering to enter them.

I feel the same, I didn't mind when it was £1 or £2 to enter, but now it means £4 a time.  I missed two of the Stakes classes at Windsor, thats £8.

LOL I entered puppy stakes and SB stakes at Blackpool and both classes were whilst I had my two girls in the breed classes I was running around three rings it was madness.  Calida did get picked out in the last few in SB then put her mental head on and got chucked.

Well done hun..... stuff the stakes!!

I've given up on them because unless you have another ( well known) handler and/or just happen to fluke the timing...they NEVER wait for mere mortals

Well done to the wee bairn xx

LOL yes good idea.

It is bad though , they should set a time and stick to it really :-)

Thanks for the congrats, it was a nice win as she never had 2 feet on the ground at the same time LOL  she just wanted into the ring next to us with the big dogs.. dog showing eh...

I always miss the stakes, only made one ever, so now save my money.  I did enter brace at Blackpool but was in the ring when they called it.  They should wait until the breed classes are over.  I'm never out of the ring or gone in the ring when they call it.

Wish I'd entered them at Paignton though, no entries, I've have got a 1st loool.  Never seen no entries before.

I have noticed the stakes classes are getting very low in numbers, people can't afford to waste the money if they are more than likely to miss them.

I also feel the beaten dog rule should not apply, it's a separate competition, winners of stakes can't progress to group or BIS competition so the beaten dog rule seems silly.

It certainly would affect the champ stakes entries, as if you have a champion you may have a decent chance in your breed and either not enter or withdraw.

I took my Jozi into champion stakes a few years ago, and didn't place.  It was before breed judging as we were second in the ring.

She always showed best if she had settled by being in earlier classes, and also was out of coat.

She then went on to win her class, the CC and BOB, but of course we couldn't go in the group.

To have the stakes after or before breed judging might be difficult.

Of course if there was more for the people who hadn't won BOB maybe people would stay longer at the shows.

I quite like what they do in Australia where you have Groups and Bests for other class categories.

So you could have Best Bitch in show and Best dog in show, Best puppy, Best Junior etc.

Would give group judges more to do, or more judges could judge at group level, and that hiatus before Groups and Best in show would be filled, and perhaps people would stay for the grand finale.
