Your vet seems to be treating him for an allergy, has he done skin scrapings to rule out mites?
- By puggy [gb] Date 01.07.10 10:32 UTC

If there is not a great deal of improvement, do ask for skin scrapings to be done, although mites, especially fox mange does not always show.   It may be worth using a spot-on as a precaution for mange, mention it to your vet.   But it is certainly the time of year for allergies, imagine us having to run round all day with a fur coat in this heat :)

Try rubbing cornflour on his affected areas I swear by it I have used this on various 'bits' it really is a good natural treatment, just put on as many times as needed and it also cools the skin

Could he ahve been near a dog with flees.  Sometimes one only has to land and not stay for them to lose the coat, hense no idea what's causing it.

i use stong hold monthly so i dont think it is fox mange but you never know he is due to be done to day so going to do that when he wakes up hes fast asleep on the sofa at the moment so wont wake him he mixes with lots of dogs every day so fleas cauld be possible i have orderded some salmon oil from fish for dogs so may be that will help hope so

I had a very itchy dog a month ago...not lost any hair just itchy.I was giving her piriton but with no efect...somebody suggested I tried yumega plus.
I then got some yumega plus....calms sensitive skin reduces itching and supports the skin...gave it a try and it worked within a few days.
One happy dog now.
Maybe something for you to consider.
I bought it at PAH.

Hi We have the same breed...have you looked at his food?
Our first black male had similar treatment for itchiness & it didnt really clear completely.
Then at a show I discovered a few Pugs especially black were allergic to a well known good brand of food, (not supermarket brand/stock)
I then changed and it stopped within a day... his offspring was exactly the same I later found out.
Maybe it could be the weather/pollen issues if has it just started?  They are low to the ground for grass and pestisides being put on & around it & I know of many also that seem to get this at start of summerand priton does ease.
Also Pugs do seem to have a few days where they seem to scratch as if it becomes like a habit they cant seem to stop, mine do have anyway and so has my friends & families but not that prolonged for the need of Vet treatment.
Hugs to your little one, hope its resolved soon nothing worse than a irritating itch!

hi , my pug george also suffers with itchy sweaty funny coloured skin on the underside of his belly and armpits, the weather makes it worse.I use thst shampoo when it flares up,dont let your pug lie on the floor and drag itself along, this makes georges worse, check puggys ears as also george gets ear infections at the same time his skin flares up.
give your puggy a puggy scratch and snuggle from me

Hi, my Pug has been scratching like a demon and produced a large wet red patch on the side of his face, not in his nose crease yet thankfully. I am using Piriton and Rimadyl and bathing it with warm salty water. Then dry with kitchen paper. I have dusted it tonight with cornflour, so hope it helps. He's up to date with Frontline and his ears are clear. He is fed on a raw diet, although he has a little whole wheat mixer. My next step is to use rice instead of wholemeal, if it doesn't start to dry up in the next 24 hrs. I just know the vet will probably inject a steroid, give him oral antibiotics and Malaseb, so hoping to avoid all that if poss.

the vet will prescribe a cream for the area,my pug george gets wet sore patches under his eyes and in nose crease and we get a cream from the vets and it works a treat

Sounds like a hot spot.  mix a little borax into the cornflour, its got antibiotic properties.  i took mine to the vet all they did was give hibiscrub to bath in wice a day.  My mentor told me how to clear it up quickly.

They can settle down after a few days if you can stop him scratching.

Our pup came to us with hot, red, itchy skin.  Particularly on her neck, tummy and ears.  I tried loads of things to clear it up but in the end, one bath with malaseb cleared it up.

> mix a little borax into the cornflour

Does it matter if they lick with borax in the cornflour?

As long as its not a strong mix its fine, never put it on neat on a sore, it will hurt.  You can aslo mix up a solution when bathing them, you can find the quantity on the net and give them a rinse all over, this asl kills mites and very effective.
