Hi

Have tried some different perfumes but still can't find one I really like. I'm looking for a pretty dainty florally one , nothing too heavy!

Can anyone suggest something? I know perfume smells different on different people ( or is that just a myth?! ) but a head starter would be great :)

Thanks, Kate

don't know if this is how you spell it but what about Anais Anias. my personal favourit though is Hugo 'Red'.
- By Tadsy Date 26.07.10 07:29 UTC
Depends how flowery you like it. I've got Boss Femme, which is quite light, and the Stella Mcartney ones are very flowery, they smell better on than in the bottle (if that makes sense).

Daisy by Marc Jacobs is lovely, I use the perfume rather than EDT as it lasts longer.
Also Flower by Kenzo, in either the clear bottle or the red for a stronger fragrance.
Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden is lovely.

It is true that perfumes smell different on others. I can't wear Dune or Aqua di Gio as they turn nasty on my skin.

I'm normally a Chanel girl, but i'm guessing they will be too heavy for what you're looking for.

My favourite is Prada Idris (the one in the green box).  I wouldn't normally go for florals but this is beautiful.  This is Eau de Parfum too but you need such a small amount of it so the cost isn't that bad.

I still love my Abercrombie & Fitch perfume.  But I also have had 4 bottles of Envy by Gucci, that will always be a favourite.  I've had Daisy by Marc Jacobs which is quite florally but light enough for every day wear.
I also have Happy by Clinique which is lovely and light.
............and 212 by Caroline Herrera is another I've had and loved, and Ralph Lauren - Romance was a nice one too.
I also love L'occitane fragrances.  I did have the Jasmine Eau de Parfum, but it seems to have been lost in transit somewhere (not happy about that at £52 for 75ml!!!).

I'm a sucker for the after shave which they spritz around the store and how all their clothes smell of it.. Very yummy!!!

DKNY Be Delicious (the green one) is fab. They do 2 different types the normal one and a limited edition one called "picnic in the park" (although if it's limited edition you might not be able to get it anymore).

I suppose it is more fruity than flowery, it's apples and melons etc - Gorgeous though.

Suejaw and I could share bottles! I am a chanel girl but for floral go for Mrac Jacobs Daisy, another one I use is Molton Brown Celestial Maracuja.

As I have got older I notice that the eau de toilette doesn't smell on me and I need the perfume, someone told me this is quite normal, hubby not pleased to pay more :)

> Daisy by Marc Jacobs is lovely

My favorite.

I also like Envy limited edition, the pink bottle.  i could become a sniffer with these lol.

I love Issey Miyake, wear it all the time!
- By tadog [gb] Date 26.07.10 14:07 UTC
Issey for me and I also use DKNY & be Delicious.

I use Anais Anais but it's hard to get hold of so I always get it at the airport.  I hate fragrances that you can smell two hours after someones walked past but Anais Anais has a nice subtle scent.

Narcissi by Rodriguez is my favourite, flowery, pretty and probably a bit expensive too.

Karen :)

>I know perfume smells different on different people ( or is that just a myth?! )

It's definitely NOT a myth :(  I am one of those people that can't wear most perfumes :(   Often the loveliest perfumes smell lke Rotting Cabbage  after a few minutes on my skin  :(   Of the ones I can wear, some disappear entirely in minutes and others become so strong they give me migraine

Also your skin can change, before having my children I used to always wear Anais Anais, but as soon as I got pregnant for the first time it smelled awful on me - and has ever since!

here's a helpful site for finding out whether you're likely to like a perfume - and it's likely to like you ;)

http://www.fragrantica.com/designers-1/#A

Hope this helps, I've been able to find new perfumes for the first time in 20+ years and now have a few that I wear, rather than just the old faithful :-D

Wow , lots of suggestions! Have just bought a trial sample of Marc Jacobs' Daisy off ebay as that seems to be very popular. :)

Will see if I can find any more samples of the ones suggested as some sound really lovely!

Try Jean Paul Gaultier Classique, but not the original one. They do a summer limited edition version which is much lighter.

I'm wearing the new Limited edition Yves Saint Laurent- Elle fragrance (Click here to see it) (It's the limited edition one on the top row with the flowers painted on the bottle)

Since wearing it I've been stopped 7 times on the London Underground and asked what perfume I'm wearing <- But don't let that mislead you into thinking it's a powerful smell, quite the opposite, which is why I think it's testament to how lovely the scent is that I've been physically stopped and asked what I'm wearing, each time it's surprised me as it's what I'd class as a subtle scent.

I chose it just as a scent to wear for work as it was very subtle but also only £28 for a HUGE 90ml bottle :-) great value when you look at how expensive the Yves Saint Laurent Elle range is ordinarily.

The top and heart notes are of Mandarin, peony, ginger raspberry and freesia it's a fruity floral. (which I always find lifts your mood when you spritz it on)

Marc Jacobs Daisy gives me a headache :O( But I have Marc Jacobs' Cucumber and get lots of comments about that too it's deeeelish!
Of my ever expanding perfume junkie collection I'd say the only other scents I have that consistently get people commenting and asking what I;m wearing are the Jo Malone scents (<- very expensive but last forever! Lime,Basil and Mandarin is my fave)

If you can't get to a perfume dept (which can be a bit sensory overload when choosing) then getting wee miniture testers from E-bay is a brilliant idea!
Good luck in your search.

'Fierce' (which you can smell all the way down Saville Row!!!)
I love the bottle with the hot 6 pack on the front :-P

Dior Addict 2, doesn't make my head ache like many perfumes do.

>Since wearing it I've been stopped 7 times on the London Underground and asked what perfume I'm wearing.

Last time that happened to me, I was in a restaurant in Crete.  A gent at the next table leaned over and asked what scent I was wearing as it was wonderful.  I was delighted....until I remembered that I hadn't actually put any perfume on, just Mosi-Guard mosquito repellant! :-D  He was delighted that a bottle of my gorgeous scent for his wife would only set him back a fiver.  She, however, was not quite so chuffed.

I know we've discussed our shared love of pefume before but...I actually don't like Daisy, although I love almost all other Marc Jacobs ones.  I'm wearing Lola a lot at the minute (the eau do parfum....not the Newfie!! *)... and his Basil Sorbet one for work...it's my new summer favourite....along with all my other favourites :-D (JM Lime, Basil and Mandarin of course....Diptyque Philosykos (fig based...totally yummy) and the one that has become my 'signature', La Prairie's Midnight Rain...this is the one that always gets the 'Mmmmm...what are you wearing' comments.

(*funny story about the Marc Jacobs 'Lola'...I discovered it in duty free last year.  Squirted it and then went to let OH have a sniff and told him it would be an easy one to remember when he was shopping for my Christmas pressie because he'd just have think of the dog's name. When Chrimbo came around, he only went into Boots and told the woman on the counter that he was looking for a bottle of Shay perfume....D'oh!! :-D )

My all time favourite is Gucci Rush I love it
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 26.07.10 22:27 UTC
hi Kate, try Jo Malone for something a little different, some really lovely scents and you can mix your own--see http://www.jomalone.co.uk

Have to say after recommending Daisy, it DOES actually give me a headache too!  lol  Should have mentioned that.

Flowerbomb by Victor&Rolf is fab, also Insolence by Guerlain and Amber/Ambre which I think is Prada.
