Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Stud Contracts - AI

Hello,

I wondered if anyone had a copy of a stud contract where AI was used (abroad) that I could take a look at? I am trying to write one up myself but I am not sure where to start. I am sure there is a lot I need to cover in it! Oh and it will be chilled, not frozen.
Any help appreciated :)

I imagine if it is chilled then the matter is quite simple, as the shelf life will be short and only be usable for the bitch it was bought for.

To be honest it is like when selling a puppy once out of your hands you really have no control.

i disagree a little. i drew up a good tight contract regards how and on whom the semen could be used when i sent abroad to canada and europe and had no problems implementing it.

but how would you hold anyone to an agreement?

Semen banks in the US may not handle the goods until after an official transfer of ownership has been signed by the stud dog owner - contracts over there are rather more binding than they are over here.  That is one way of holding people to an agreement.

but once you have transfered owenrship to someone then they are free to do as they wish.  It's a bit like a stud dog owner has no control over waht happens to the offspring of their dogs.

Thank you everyone for your responses.  I realise that many contracts do not hold up well, but I feel I should at least have something outlining our agreement. I am very new to this (I have been thrown in at the deep end!) and have never written any kind of contract before.
