Hello all.

My girl , Brooke, is on day 53. All is going very well and she seems to have read the book of the bitch this time, if it says she will do it on this day, she does it.

Last night she started licking alot at one of her teats, and she has licked it raw.  I am telling her to leave, and she is not alone at all, but I was wondering am I best just to bathe it and leave it , or would a little vaseline on it help? I worry about her ingesting things so thought I would ask?

Thanks in advance,

Jac.

It feels fine, and no milk or any discharge as yet.

Not any firmer than the others, all quite soft really.  Yes it is her first litter.

I will add that it does not look swollen, well not more than expected at this stage, just the skin where she is licking is very chaffed looking.  Not the actual teat, the area around it.

Try Sudacrem.  I know it's for humans, but my vet recommended it when one of my girls had been over zealous in her cleaning, and had an extremely sore vulva.  It was raw, and I was concerned about her licking.  But it worked great, and if she did ingest any, she was certainly not unwell.  I'm sure he wouldn't have told me to use it if there was any risk.

I would use it again.

Thanks, I called the vet and sudocreme is what he advised , with a little wander on lead to give it time to soak in :)

I'd use aloe vera - no problems if they lick and it's natural anti biotic anti inflammatory etc, my girls love it on their teats when they've been feeding the pups a week or two

That is a good idea, I shall get some in and add to my kit.  Thankyou :)
