Tonight on BBC at 9pm Panorama. Its on the Medivet chain with an undercover reporter. Shows some pretty awful things i believe.

Those people of a cynical nature like myself will find this show interesting, Thanks.

When Medivet took over the local private vets I used it didn't take me long to feel uncomfortable and move to a another small local vet. Many others did too. It wasn't the treatment my dog received, but the number of different vets that seemed to come and go and lack of continuity - plus the huge price increase and the pushy sales. I'll be interested to see this programme.

Can't watch it, tried to but not in the right frame of mind to do so!

Watching it.
I don't like chain vets. I don't like chain anythings really - it gets de-personalised. I will always be someone who supports local small businesses. Even my own doctor is a small, local practice based in a converted house, not a health centre.

Yet another programme that makes me want to hold my dogs tight and be thankful that I trust my vets implicitly.  the programme is very enlightening but I fear that it will have the same outcomes as PDE i.e. people will hold skewed views that may put animals at risk.  hopefully this doesn't put people off taking sick animals to the vet.

I trust my vets, they provide their own 24 hour care etc.
They are lovely.
I'd move my business elsewhere if Medivet bought my vet surgery.
Something I hope will never ever happen to my vet surgery.

The treatment that some of those poor animals had to endure was awful.

I found the costs horrendous, procedures that I have had done at top Vet training schools such as the Royal Dick Vet cost at least half of what Medivet charged.
Thank goodness for small local country Vets and good specialists when needed. At least I know my dogs are in safe hands when they are handed over.

didn't think I'd watch it, but ended up doing so :(

I couldn't believe the lack of respect and compassion for animals in distress and pain   The attitude to their patients and the way the owners were seen as cash cows.  First of all the right people need to be recruited, many of the students appeared to not appreciate that they were dealing with other than stuffed toys   something that the vets in charge should have been pointing out to them.  And the vet nurse who did admit that she would go ballistic if her pet was treated in this way - should have been sacked - she clearly knew what she was doing!

not once did Medivet answer the case IMHO, they simply quoted the party line and ignored the real issue.

would never leave my pets at risk of a 'chain' practise after watching this.

Does anyone know if this will be repeated on BBC?
- By Goldmali Date 23.07.10 11:26 UTC
There's been a press release today from the major veterinary associations saying the RCVS have asked the BBC for all information and proof so they can investigate Medivet carefully. Good on them!

Medivet's press release.

Having watched the program and read the Medivet press release, I only feel that Medivet is trying to save themselves. I would think they'll loose many clients as a result of this program. Don't forget though that each individual veterinary surgeon is accountable for his own actions, ie for the care he gives and for the others under his instruction.
I strongly hope the RCVS investigate and take action. For too long it appears to have been "the old boys club" when it comes to negligent or unprofessional veterinary care etc. I also hope they review their accreditation system of vet practices and bring in that any practice that keeps in-patients, have to have staff present on-site at night which isn't the case at the moment.
