I bought my puppy last October from a breeder. I was looking at his paperwork the other day and realised I had never sent away the KC papers to transfer ownership into my name.
Do I really need to do this, is it too late and does the breeder have any claim in ownership as I haven't changed it??
I've always had rescue dogs in the past so never had to deal with these issues.
Any advice would be helpful.

no its not too late to send them , i would advise sending them in after all he is yours wouldnt you like him in your name,

As Newfienook says I would change them but legally he is yours anyway. Some people dont change them if they don't plan to show or breed and leave them in the breeders name to avoid paying the extra fee. Might also be a good time to look for his microchip paperwork too in case that hasn't been transferred. It's easy to forget things but this can be the only way to contact you should he ever get out alone.

Send them in it's only a few pounds.

According to kennel club records I own 39 dogs!!!  In reality I have five living and two deceased, the other 22 are former pups whose owners never transfered ownership.

Personally I would always want my dog in my name even if I never showed.

Thank you for the advice. I'm doing it online tonight. Better to be in my name. As for his micro chip. He hasn't been done yet. When he was a pup and I took him, the vet advised waiting until he goes in to be neutered as the needle is quite large and can be quite painful but he is defo going to be chipped when he goes in.

I find it very strange that some vets has such opinions about microchips! I have chipped tiny, tiny  Papillon pups aged just 5 weeks without any problem. (These pups when fully grown do now weigh just over 3 lbs each, so you can imagine how small they were then!) They felt it MUCH less than the vaccination needle a few weeks later.This is because the microchip needle is so extremely sharp (and does not include any potentially irritating liquid). I accidentally chipped myself once when doing a litter of puppies and didn't even feel it, the first thing I knew was when I saw blood dripping from my thumb! :)

You made me curious, so I've just checked out my record - it has 32 dogs down as mine.  I don't know where I keep them all!!

I would say get him chipped as soon as you can. I have found numerous dogs over the years and got them home thanks to their chip. We always assume it won't happen to us but it only has to happen once. To me it's vital

Most of mien have only been chipped when older for Pet Passport as I have all my puppies ear tattooed.

I had Inka done at 7 weeks and the puppy that is going to Australia at 7 weeks and it was better than having them done later.  Neither seemed to notice, and there was no bleeding (Lexi bled at 12 weeks).

You just log in as if you are going to register a new litter.  All dogs that are registered to you are on the first screen.
