Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Food not tested on animals.

After doing a lot of research on foods tested on animals in horrific conditions I stopped using Iams. I found it really hard to find a company that DOES NOT use gross testing on all breeds of dogs.

As a beagle owner I carried on till I found one. If you call them, they can give advice on how to change the dogs feeding and the new web site will be up soon.

I am not in any way connected with this company, just a concerned owner who was appalled to find that MOST dog food has been tested on animals, such as removing most of the kidneys to see how the protein affects a dog with kidney trouble. Give me strengthhhhhhhh!!!!

Pascoes is the company and if you call this number they will gladly send a 2kg bag free of charge with advice. A Free 2kg bag of Procare Puppy for your dogs to try. Just phone 01377 252571 to arrange delivery of your free bag.

Sorry about my soap box but I just had to let you have this number and maybe more people will stop to think how the pet food is made. I was very ignorant prior to getting my pup.

I stopped using Iams when i read about the amount of steriods testing and the act they put steriods in the food, thats what makes the dog so happy healthy and high.

Blimey Sam

I must have missed that bit. Thanks for adding that too. If just one person who reads this stops using Iams then it will be worth it.

Maybe other people have more info to add.

My dads neighbour told him about the steroiud use in Iams (that's what mum and dad feed their cocker on) and since they've changed to Nutro (what we use) their dog is a lot calmer and less hyper.

She was a complete nutcase and mum found it very difficult to enjoy walking her and she was always on edge in the house - barking at every little noise and running round and round the garden like a mad thing.

I have also stopped using other things that Iams parent company Proctor and Gamble manufacture such as Ariel, Fairy, Tampax, Lenor, and many more. I intend to boycot Proctor and Gamble entirely, as I think to purchase any of there products is funding this cruel act against animals and will not be apart of it. Surely it is not nessessary to test on animals just for what I think should be common sense. :(

Don't forget Pascoes is cereal based, and mainly does contain cereal so you maybe wouldn't need to test that on anything anyway. This is one of the reasons I feet meat and veg, thats exactly what it is !!

well I am not sure whether I will use it...just getting sample to see...my little dream boat sitting on my feet is rather picky, she normally likes moist meat chunks still dried food, and she likes to kill every piece first..lol

While we're on the subject of animal welfare can I ask everyone to stop and think about the conditions that the chickens live in when you buy your eggs. ( Hope that doesn't sound bossy). 78% of Britains disagree with battery farming, but 80% of eggs consumed in this country come from caged birds.
Many Thanks

Eggs AHHHHHHH I have about 60 in the fridge from my very spoilt semi free range{allowed on the grass when its not really wet! :) if wet they have their huge house and large woodc hipped covered run} flock of birds
And proper free range eggs taste sooooooo much better than cheap battery hen eggs

Hi Jane

Very good point. I always buy free range eggs and cannot help but tell people about battery hens when they are buying them at the same shop as me at the same time.

Gonna get arrested one of these daysssssssss

Good for you. I often feel like saying something to people buying battery eggs but I'm worried about sounding bossy. How do people react when you say anything?
In the Co-op the have a label saying 'these eggs come from caged birds'. It's not just eggs you have to look out for, it's eggs in prepared foods such as quiches. I know they're expensive but alot of M&S foods are made with free range eggs, and McDonald's say they only use free range eggs, so you can treat yourself to an egg McMuffin with a clear conscience.

Hello

Quite frankly most people do not think about it until you point it out to them. I have found most of the time they are great about it and pick up free range instead once they have thought about it.

Only one person so far has said to me 'OK give me the difference between the two prices and I will buy the free range' I simply replied that if he could live on eggs where chickens never see daylight just remember, what goes around comes around'.

I saw him two years later reincarnated as a common battery hen, it had the same selfish eyes and he dearly wished he had listened..............grin.

I agree Fiona

Such a change in the dog once we stopped using Iams, the advert makes me mad. The dogs gonna bounce about like a teenager on E as that is kinda what it is on, well sorta....you know what I mean.......grin.
