Hello all,

Alfie had an operation to remove his deciduous canine teeth yesterday - it wasn't a major op but he still needed a general anesthetic.  He is much less wobbly today but is still whimpering continuously. The vet gave him a long acting painkiller yesterday, and said he shouldn't need anything today, but I'm wondering what ppl think about giving him half an aspirin?  I know paracetamol is harmful to a dog.  Would it be better to go back to the vets to get a painkiller?

Thanks in advance for the advice

If he's already been given a long-acting painkiller please don't give him anything else without asking the vet first. The whimpering can often be a reaction to the anaesthetic leaving the system rather than actual pain.

Thanks so much.  I will see how he is by lunchtime and give the vets a call if he is no better.  Really value your advice, and such a swift reply!

Otis whimpers a lot when he has been away getting ops and it soon passes when he gets back home and settled in again. Probably a mixture of pain, being knocked out and just being a typical mummys boy Flattie.
Hope he gets back to normal soon.
