Friend had her 10 week old pup vaccinated and 2 days later a lump came up at site of injection. Phoned vet who told her this is normal.

I have never had that happen but it's 9 years since I had a pup. Experiences please

Had it happen twice to my baby son, took several weeks for it to go down.

Same thing happened with my cairn when he had his first vaccination 6 years ago. I panicked and took him to the vets who told me it is normal and it would disappear. Toby, my cairn, was fine and just as the vet said it disappeared so please tell your friend not to worry :)

It's very common for a pup to have a localised reaction like this to a vaccination - from the feedback we get at work it's about 50:50. Certainly many of mine have had this. It disappears in a couple of weeks.

It also often happens if they've had an antibiotic injection at a later date too.

My St Bernard got it too. Big huge thing that gradually wore away. None of the rest ever got it.

I had it in a litter of 3 Papillon pups this year. The lumps were huge, especially considering the size of the pups. Bigger than golfball sized. However just like JG says they did vanish within a fortnight.

Vets are supposed to disperse the vaccine under the skin. Usually a good rub will do it but more often than not they just dont bother and pups get lumps. 

However having said this our Dali went in for quite a big op earlier in the year (urate stones) and got an infection at his drip site that swelled to the size of a grapefruit. It got so big so quickly that it impinged on his nerves and he lost the use of his back legs, only temporarily though thank god. Whipped him down the vets for it draining off and he was right as rain.
