I'm sitting here with a broken wrist (Colles fracture) (sob) after going walking with friends on thursday.   Our dogs were under control, but there was a woman with a small dog on an 8foot lead (may have been longer), we caught it three times as it wasn't even fastened into it's collar properly, and the last time, I fastened his collar and told her to bin it when she got home, the leather was well past its use by date and looked ready to snap.    She walked on a little and the dog suddenly ran back and under my feet, in avoiding the dog and lead I was thrown down by the only section where the path and grass didn't meet :( and my hand found the edge of it :( :(

Why is it that the people with the L o n g e s t leads have the most unruly dogs and s**t for brains?? :( :(

She was probably back there yesterday and today, whereas, I spent the last two days in A&E and getting it reset in fracture clinic and still can't walk my dogs for I don't know how long :(  The painkillers are useless, they do awful things to my digestion :(

If I ever see her again I'll string her from the nearest tree with her 8 foot lead

There is nothing worse than being in pain, you really shouldn't have to suffer in this day and age without decent pain relief.
If you want any help stringing her up I 'll come and holds her for you

Poor you, hope you are feeling a bit better today--I had exactly the same fracture on an ice rink some years ago when a small child not much bigger than a penguin shot across my path, with instant result :(

Not a word from the little one's parents to tell him how dangerous it is to cut into other skaters' paths, still less an "are you all right?" to me.

Can you take arnica and comfrey, they will help you.

Have to agree with you, the amount of times I meet dogs coming around a corner/bend in the road with the owner way behind without a clue where their dog is - or you move out into the road to give someone space and the dog follows you out! I'm surprised accidents don't happen more often - I wouldn't mind if it was the person with the extending lead. Hope your not too uncomfortable and have someone to help you.

I have pain relief, but it's choice between pain and complete constipation which will lead to a different, worse pain   :(   not much of a choice there!

Will ring my GP in the morning to ask for non-constipating pain relief ;)

Will also look into arnica and comfrey thanks!   Am taking vit c after reading about it helping with swelling etc.

Thankfully my bones appear to be ok, no osteoporosis.

I have help, but 'won't cook', rather than can't cook so a bit frustrating :( and he's never done pampering in 30 years and doesn't seem about to break the habit of a lifetime :(

Sorry to hear about your non-accident and also the pain you are in. It is the codeine that will be causing the unwanted side effects so either take something to counteract this like one of the fibre drinks or just use paracetamol, will keep the pain bearable if you take 8 ever 24 hours.

Have you got any ibroprofen or better still tramadol? The latter is the best i've ever had, prescription only - morphine based, but does knock you out :-).

Tramadol also makes you constipated any of the morphine based medication seems to have this effect, codeine is also morphine based I even found that patches had this unwanted side effect, you can however take both ibuprofen and paracetamol at the same time, a call to the NHS direct should confirm this.

So sorry to hear this Dill.  I had the same break 18 months ago, but the A&E said it wasn't broken!

After being in excruciating pain, going backwards and forwards to the doc for a month (and being told that I MUST keep using it), they x-rayed again, and found a right mess.  All the heavy carrying with a broken wrist for a month meant a long and painful recovery.

I hope that yours doesn't take so long.  Sending healing vibes.

Take the pain relief and eat dried fruit.

That must have been so painful :(   Hope it hasn't caused further problems since.

Son had a similar experience with his thumb, he read the x-ray and could see the break (at 6 years old! ) as could I, but the staff at A&E didn't see it!  We got a letter of apology 3 weeks later, from the head of A&E, but at least it was only his thumb!

I was lucky, the top man was there so the break was spotted instantly, only problem I had was the stupid nurse who put on the temporary cast and didn't know her radius from her ulna !!!   and gave me attitude because I winced!  The rest of the staff have been amazing though.  I've been warned it will take a long time and won't ever be the same - it's my dominant hand, so I'll just have to work harder to recover.

I've tried just Paracetamol and Ibuprofen, it didn't work :(   So now back on Co-Codamol + Ibuprofen, and Senna before bedtime :(  at least it works.

not sure how I'll get the dogs bathed, I've got 2 in season and they'll be humming soon   OH will have to pitch in unless DS can do it.

Same here!  It's a right b****r trying to use the other one.  I don't think I had ever realised that you really only use a dominant hand - the other is just an assistant.  I now know that I'm not ambidextrous!  :-)  :-)

Sorry you are still in so much pain.
Have they explained that you must keep taking the pain killers at regular intervals even if it feels a bit better.
This is to keep the anti inflammatory effect going.
Drink loads as well as taking the senna, even if it is just water.
How about baby wipes to clean certain doggie bits?

Just reading back and realised it could be taken as, I had an in season bitch with me   This wasn't the case, I had my neuter with me and the other two dogs are also  neutered, although the one poor boy seems to have feminisation syndrome.  It was 'oldies day out' - they are all 10+ and really good friends :)   My 2 bitches came into season on the weekend, they've never synchronised before and are both early :rolling eyes: 

Am waiting for a callback from my doctor re painrelief as currently alternating co-codamol and paracetamol to make them last and it isn't really working :(

I do use wet wipes on the dogs, but they spend all their time cleaning each other - eeew!   Bedlingtons are very houndlike/catlike in that they really snuggle together and spend a lot of time cleaning each other and sleeping together, often it's hard to tell where one ends and the others begin ;)  Which is lovely, but means that they will all now pong LOL

Thanks for all the advice :) have also read that vit c helps, so taking some of that too.
