I am looking for some advice i noticed last night my 10 week cocker bitch had a small red lump at the side of one of her lower teats, today though it has got larger and quite angry looking, it dosent seem to be bothering her.  I tried bathing it as i thought it was like a small boil but i notice it is has kind of blood vessels in it.  I can't get an appointment till monday at the vets and dont really see it as an emergency but i am quite worried about it.  I have never had a bitch before and dont know if this is a common thing, all my spaniels have been male.  Any help and advice would be great and help me get over the weekend.  I have always had great advice previously!!

Thank you

Could she have been stung or bitten by an insect?

dont think so! but cant totally rule it out as she has only been getting in and out at short intervals in the garden for toilet training as she has only had first vacs, but maybe?  I was worried it was connected to her teats maybe a cyst wasnt sure if bitch pups were prone to this?

If it looks like a strawberry it could be a histiocytoma - my breed is very prone to them,  they are usually benign but are caused by a virus which enters the skin, and more often seen in young dogs, they suddenly appear, it seems almost overnight.   Sometimes when they reach a certain size they turn a silvery colour, dry up and drop off. Sometimes they have been mistaken for boils.

Or it could be an insect bite, and she has scratched it and made it inflammed.

However, it is better to have it checked out by your vet in case it is something else.   Difficult to tell without looking at it.

thanks yeah it is really like a big boil and as you said it has appeared overnight! just dont like the look of it! I will certainly get it checked on monday was just looking for ideas as i will be worried sick till then, at least it isnt bothering her too much.  Definetly is not a boil tho as she would have felt some discomfort when i bathed it and she didnt budge poor wee thing.  Thanks for replying.

She could have been stung but had a bad reaction to it.

Hope she is ok :(

If you look at the link below, it will give you more information and also if you click on where it tells you it shows an excellent picture.

hiya i read the link and looked at the picture it definitely isnt that! My mother in laws spaniel had one of these in her ear before and as the link said it went away on its own after a few weeks, i am starting to think she may have been bitten or even stung now.  This morning it is not so swollen looking or angry but still isnt right, it is kind of looking a little bit wrinkled now as the lump has shrunk she isnt in any pain and i will let you know after the vets tomorrow, its sods law she was there on tuesday and got a good checking over with first vac and apperars a couple of days later ha.  Thankyou very much for your replys x
