does anyone know where I can get a third party liability insurance for all my dogs. I don'y want to insure for vet fees but want them covered for getting out/causing damage etc...thanks

Join Dogs Trust, membership includes Third party Insuarance for up to 10 dogs.

thank you for your reply.
This is only true for PET dogs if the dogs are bred with they are not covered. The same thing applies to my household contents policy. I THOUGHT I was covered for 2.5 million there but if you breed (even once) then you are classed as a breeder and there is no cover..that is why I am looking for another policy for peace of mind

http://www.vip4u.co.uk

They're a pet insurance brokerage I use and they do just 3rd party cover.

Where does it say that in the Dogs Trust literature.

All my dogs are Pets, whether they have been bred from or not and 3 out fo 5 are spayed.

I phoned them up as soon as it was suggested. I asked the girl on the phone if it made any difference if I had bred from any of the dogs and she said it did they would not accept any dogs used for breeding.

It makes no mention fo that in the literature, that amy simply have been the persons take or opinion.

I may well give them another call on Monday along with the other phone number. You may well be right and the lady I spoke to was wrong. I am just concerned as I know my own household policy excludes any dogs that have been bred with and I didn't know that either until I rang them for clarification as a friend of mine had warned me. There is nothing about that that I can see in their small print either!

Hi summer i joined the Dogs Trust which is £25 per year only or just £12.50 per year I think if you are over 50 or 60 it does provide all your dogs with third party liablity insurance cover worldwide too!  they also give you access to a vet by phone - so as well as the great work the Trust does this is a great benefit for you.
hope this helps x

I contacted VIP insurance as above (posted by Trialist) and they replied they no longer do 'Stand Alone 3rd Party Insurance and suggested Dogs Trust (which I am a member of).

I wrote back asking about the 'breeding' issue, and got the following reply:

Hi Barbara

I've spoken with The Dog's trust this morning and provided your dogs aren't used specifically for breeding purposes, for financial gain and you are a paying member they will be covered.  The standard limitations on third party liability cover would still apply regarding working dogs, show dogs (whilst showing) and taking dogs to work etc. but if you would like further clarification on this you can contact The Dog's Trust on 0207 837 0006.

If I can be of any further help please don't hesitate to contact me on 0845 6018575.

Best regards

Nicky
