Topic Dog Boards / Health / Anybody use Fragaria from dorwest herbs

Hi All

I have just purchased some fragaria from dorwest herbs to help plaque with my westies teeth as he has got some build up on his back molars, it arrived this morning but it says on the bottle you cannot handle the tablet and you must tip it straight from the bottle into the mouth of the dog, i usually hide tablets in a small bit of cheese but should you not do that with these tablets.
I know some people on here use these so just wondered what they do with theres only my boy is inclined to spit tablets back out if they are not hidden in anything.

They  are probably homeopathic tablets and in the strictest sense the instructions are right BUT my sil who is a fully qualified homeopath always tells me to get them in their mouths however you can. One idea is on a plastic spoon or in their water. I find as they are so small poping them in their mouths directly usually works even from the bottle try distracting him at the same time. otherwise go for tipping on the cheese and into his mouth

I use them but for one of my cats.  I get a pill into the lid and then open her mouth and put it as far back as I can without touching it.  Does work :)

I tried them and found them a waste of money, they had absolutely no effect :(

Hope you have more success, they do work for some ;)

What do you find is good for removing plaque off of the teeth

My homeopath says get them in however you can, it is preferable if you do not handle them or give them with food but if you have to then it's ok.
I have used Fragaria, Plaque Off ( gave one of mine the trots!) and find that raw feeding is the answer for lovely clean teeth.
Very interesting how my dogs who were all fed the same had different amount of tartar etc on their teeth before I changed to raw.

I know some that have had good results with fragaria but it didnt work that well for me.

I've been using dorwest tooth paste and lintbells antibacterial tooth cleaner for a week now and I am very happy with the results so far. I said to myself if this didn't work within a month I would have to book a dental for the back teeth but now the tarter is nearly all gone. He hated the tooth brush and would run the opposite direction now he runs to me when I put it on my finger and enjoys a good tooth and gum massage. Hmm i wonder if both would work well for humans lol

I've been using CSJs seaweed and parsley for plaque removal. Started a couple of years ago when my then 3yr old was showing just a slight sign of browning. Now all the dogs get it from 1 yr old. They've all got lovely white pearlies so am fairly happy it works, plus it seems to be quite cost effective. Think they do a 100g tub for about £12 and that will last one of my dogs 8 months.

To be honest I've never found fragaria tablets to work, I find the seaweed powder added to food far more effective.  However I used to work in a kennel that used homeopathic tablets extensively.  I never had to handle the tablets to give them to the dogs as they are sweet tasting.  Normally I would tip one tablet into the lid and then drop it infront of the dog on the floor and it got hoovered up.  Failing that tip it in the lid, and empty the lid straight into the dogs mouth.  Dogs soon associate them as treats.

I find the seaweed pretty good, and with dogs/cats who have proper tartar, LOGIC GEL is excellent :)

I found that stuff you add to their water that you buy at the vet (sorry, can't remember the name!) worked fairly well, but with 3 water bowls and having to replenish it every day it was too expensive. I've just bought a new tooth gel that you're supposed to put on weekly, will let you know if that has any effect. Vet said my boy's teeth are ok for his age, but they look a bit grungy to me, he is a foul scavenger so I need to try and brush more often!
