Have tried various kibble varieties and the result has always been the same - loose stools and colitis - now feed Robbies (which is wet) and for three years no problems. Recently have been getting off cuts and bones from from a friend who does the butchery for a local farmer, so they sometimes get a large meaty bone in the garden, a little meat added to their evening meal or an all meat meal. They love it and so far so good.

I am a big fan of raw feeding after seeing what it did for my sister's problematic GSD about 13 years ago! Mine is not fed totally raw but has a good proportion of raw in his diet. I need a new freezer, just waiting til after I move, then I will seriously think about ordering from one of the wholesalers.
My preferred is/would be Burns, but it works out too expensive for 5 dogs. One or two dogs and it was fine. So now I feed Arden Grange or CSJ Lamb & Rice. All 3 have same affect re coat and stools ... we like 'em firm and kickable, not sloppy or rock solid!! One of my youngsters however, really does not like wheat gluten free food, so she's eating Chudleys Classic, again, with very nice results. I did feed the Chudleys Choice wheat gluten to the others for a little while but wasn't quite so happy with that.

I've recently moved my dogs from Burns Fish & Rice to CSJ CP21 (which is Salmon based). Some of you may remember I posted in May asking people's experience regarding moving from Burns and was thinking of trying Skinners. I thought I'd use this thread to let you know my experience.
Basically after much humming & harring I decided to try CSJ CP21 but have changed them over very slowing taking about 5-6 weeks to complete the change. They have now been on the CSJ fully for nearly two weeks and so far I've been very pleased with the result. I changed for purely financial reasons, the Burns was getting too expensive and CSJ is at lease £14 per 15kg cheaper. I'm pleased to say that so far the same weight of CSJ food as previously fed Burns seems to be maintaining their body weight. If anything my youngster has put on weight slightly. They are both well on it and their poos are good being firm but not too firm and a normal looking colour. If anything my youngster's poos have improved as on Burns they tended to be soft if he did more than one poo on a walk, that is rarely if ever the case now. It is too early to be sure that the increase in protein (from 18% to 22%) is going to be a problem but certainly so far there is no sign of any change in behaivour.

thanks for all your feed back some great ideas about diffrent foods what a great forum this is i have decidid to keep the dogs on burns and try the moist burns lamb and rice just as a topper to see if he likes it better thanks again everyone

We have recently changed to Simpsons with excellent results, they all love it.

If there's a skin allergy it may be rice - I had a GSD who developed a skin problem and I only solved it when switching to rice free food (at the time it was quite difficult). Interestingly next door's shep also has a skin problem and owner only recently changed food to a rice free one and her skin allergy has cleared up. A friend has a dog allergic to fish oil - so it's worth trying a few things to identify the issues. I now feed Fish4dogs and all my dogs love it and the treats they make.
> just wondering what everyone else feeds
Nothing! absolutely nothing... If they're lucky they will catch the crumbs for my banquet. I am a mean dog-starving person!!
^ Well that is what my dogs would have people believe!! (especially neighbors who are Bar-B-Qing!!) ;-) *sigh*
In actual fact they eat better than me (!!) had a venison carcass tonight.
