I have just seen a post on a diffrent web site for someone who want a MJR with papers so that it can be shown.
They say that they already have 3 dogs and are looking for a forth.
I thought that the only JR that were recognised in this country were Parsons.
They are in this country.
Am i wrong or is there a new breed?

You are correct the size should be 13" Bitches & 14" Dogs. anything more than an 1" smaller would be penalised in the show ring as too small. Ja:)kie
Parson Russell Terriers are a recognised breed, Jack Russells are not and are basically small and smallish mongrels

There I go making assumptions again, I was talking of the size of a Parson Russell Terriers (Parson Jack Russell Terriers) not the black and white terriers cross breeds that one sees all the time from very small to fox terrier size. Ja:)kie

Oooh Christine, I doubt many JR enthusiast would agree that they are mongrels, many can trace their ancestry back for years and years, they just haven't been recognised by the KC in England yet. I beleive that if you get KC permission you can use an unregistered JR terrier with a Parson JR to improve bloodlines. Ingrid
Most dogs labeled as jack russells are are surely mongrels. The come on a multitude of colours, sizes, leg lengths, coat types etc, the only consistent thing about them is the name?
The "Jack" was removed from the KC registered name to differentiate them although I understand there was talk of putting it back again

I hope Mari will put me right on this, but I believe the Irish KC do recognise Jack Russells or have plans to in the near future.
The Parson JRs have been a seperate breed for a while now, they are longer in the leg then the JRs and a slightly bigger dog.
I had a JR from the local hunt in my childhood and have friends who breed them and do give out pedigrees with the pups. Ingrid

nope you're right Ingrid, being bored silly in work I just rang the IKC and yes they recognise both Parsons and regular Jack Russell Terriers.
There is a breed club over here and all
