hi,
not sure if this is in the right place, apologies if not.
I emailed a lady yesterday about a litter of KC Italian Greyhound pups that she has. I asked about the health tests that the parents have had and the grandparents..etc etc. I also said that I was possibly looking to buy next spring /summer.
I got a reply today saying that she might not have a litter next yr (fair enough), but that she had a litter now and the prices were £1350 for the bitches and £1250 for the dogs. There are endorsements on the pedigree but she would be willing to lift them for an extra £200. Does it cost that much to lift the endorsements and is the price of the pups the normal price you would have to pay. I have always wanted one of these dogs but Im not sure of the average price. If I was to buy one then if I wanted the endorsements lifted the it would cost me £1550.
She never mentioned anything about health tests either.
Does anyone know what the average price is....Im not looking to breed, I just want a pet, but that seems a bit much to me.
>Does it cost that much to lift the endorsements
All is costs to lift endorsements is the price of the paper, envelope and stamp to send the letter to the KC. This breeder seems to be out to make as much money as possible.
Have you contacted the breed club to ask advice on prices?

A very helpful site! :) I notice that under the 'Buying a Puppy' section they say "
The average and sensible price is around £500 for a dog and £550 for a bitch but some potential owners have recently been quoted prices considerably higher."
I knew someone who Breeds IGs and I always understood they were going for in excess of £1000 hence the problem I now believe there is with puppy farming them. Sorry, can't honestly see why they should cost so much, specially as they couldn't do a good day's 'work' out on the hill!!!
Endorsement lifting costs stamp, paper, envelope and a few minutes of time ... if that's £200 then I'm going to become an official writer of endorsement lifting letters. Anyone want to hire me? :-)

not a nice breeder if its just money makes them lift endorsements.
Breeder I got my first dog off I prefered her approach. she asked what we planned to do with our dog, pet, show or work and i said pet poissibly bit of show she helped us pick. she had endorsements on whole litter but deal was if after 18 months our girl had either done well in show ring or at work and passed her health tests for breed she would come have a look at her and providing looked nice well balanced temperament too she'd lift the endorsements for no cost. if hadn't proved herself in above she wouldn't lift the endorsement for any amount.

I'm a sucker for an Italian greyhound too :-D They are beautiful :-D
Find yourself a good breeder you trust and you won't regret the extra wait at all :)
Can you get to a few champ shows where they have classes? One of the best ways to meet breeders and get your fix while you're waiting ;)
I will be looking during the summer hols once the school breaks up...my daughter will be coming with me...I cant believe she leaves this month!!!!
I definitly need an Italian fix;)
> What breed is a IGs ?
?
An Italian Greyhound is a breed. It is a toy dog, a minature version of a Greyhound.

Gorgeous little breed, but they seem to be so fragile! :( I would be scared to send it out to the garden alone.... not to mention the walks in the winter.

Had a friend that ran his IG with his Rotties, never seemed to have any really problems but I believe they can break a leg with ease.

Sorry, back on topic I would avoid anyone wishing to charge to lift an endorcement, that is not what they are for and it should be the breeder assessment of the owner that counts not money. I do not know what they fetch these days but £500 sounds too low and £1200 to high, why not ask the breed club the average going price.

I agree with u Nova, endorcements are there for a reason and money definitely isn't it.
