Topic Other Boards / Foo / Cost of cutting trees?
- By jane [gb] Date 30.06.10 14:26 UTC
I have 4 conifers at the back of my garden that are about the same height as the house. They block so much light and I would like to have them cut down to the height of the fence (about 6-8ft). I also have a tree approx 6ft in my front garden that I would like removing. I want to get some quotes but wondered if anyone has had similar work done and can give me an idea of the price I'm looking at. Thanks

In all honesty about £300 a tree which would include disposing of rubbish, a job lot around £1000, not a cheapie, but we may have higher prices here in Hampshire.

Going back a few years. We had one tree taken out and a couple of others pruned down to a reasonable size and we were charged £250ish. That included taking everything away as well.

It would probably cost about £800 - £1000 for the day's work, including consulting the council about planning permission to do so.

planing permission not required for conifers and if the other tree is only six foot high not for that either.
unless planted out side your boundry.

It depends whether or not you're in a conservation area, or if someone has put a tree preservation order on them (unlikely, but possible).

Best to get a few quotes. And DONT necessarily go for the cheapest or to door knockers (alot of the time are didicoys that fly tip!!!!)
They are required by LAW to have a waste transfer licence if they are taking waste away from your property, if they dont have one they are breaking the law.
We charge £20/hour per person to do things, plus a skip is at least £120 for a 12 yarder!
Without seeing it I would hazard a guess about £1000 is around the figure.
As JG says, if you are in a conservation area, any trees over 6' have to have permissoion to be cut down, even self set ones!!!  Shrubs dont, and a deffinition of a shrub is anything with more than one trunk from ground level!!! :)

Don't forget to ask to see their insurance.
