I was just reading an article about DVT and was wondering if the pain caused by it is constant or only in particular circumstances (like walking or going up stairs). A girl at work thought she had a cramp in her calf but thought a cramp would be a constant tight pain. But the pain she was having only walking or going up steps or flexing of the foot, there was a slight ache when standing.  None of the articles I've read say anything particular about the type of pain...just that it is . She had been off work a wee while with a foot injury and just started back to work today. She was fine part of the morning but then pain was just sort of there.

Cheers

It is not possible to say. I varies enormously.
But, if you even suspect it to be a trombosis, you HAVE to see a doctor.
Or in this case your work friend.
If untreated, it CAN cause death!

It doesn't even have to cause pain AT ALL. I got one and I felt nothing, absolutely nothing. When it came loose and travelled to the lung and nearly killed me, THEN I felt it, but not a hint when it was still in the leg.

My husband after a knee operation got DVT because of keeping the leg still for a long time.

If she has had a foot injury and kept it still I would suggest getting checked out PDQ.  My OH leg was solid to touch.
