Hi Guys,

Sorry to trouble but i have a bitch who is 54days gone, she has been eating and drink fine all the way through but yesterday she decided she didnt want her tea, or a drink, and again to day she has only had a few nibbles out of my hand and because she is not eating/drinking, she is not going to the toilet.

is this normal at this stage?

are the puppies getting enough food if she isnt eating?

im really starting to worry that something is wrong!

All advise would be greatful

Thanks

Carrie

are your dates definitely right? It's quite normal for bitches to go off their food shortly before whelping, though she would be a little early at 54 days. Pups aren't too likely to suffer nutritionally at this point as they will still receive nutrition from the bitches reserves, though it places more strain on her.  Have you taken her temperature, she may be starting with an infection.  Alternatively she may just be feeling rotten being so pregnant in this weather.  If you are concerned, speak to your vet to be on the safe side.

Thanks Fate,

we've just been to the vets, she has a slight temp, vet did an internal and said she is starting to open.  did a scan while we were there 2, just to be on the safe side - everything looks normal.

Just got to hope now i can get a few more days out of her (got tubes and milk just incase)

keep ya posted

Fingers crossed that your girl can hold out for 2 more days, when the pups will be viable.
