I have been a bad dog owner and haven't used flea prevention treatments since last summer so got out the poochy medicine box to see what was in it. I have used frontline on my staffy (for dogs 20-40kg) and advantage on my rott (for dogs up to 25kg). I have only used one on my rott but is it ok to use 2 of them as he weighs about 50kg?

We were told by the vet nurse that we could double up on flea-er if dog was twice the weight. Its not something I use though. Not a fan of all the chemicals. I only ever use it to treat fleas rather than prevent them.

When a dog is over the upper weight limit of a flea product you give it a dose of the appropriate lower one as well. For instance a 55kg dog would be given a dose of 20kg-40kg treatment
plus a dose of 10kg-20kg treatment.

maybe I am not such a bad owner after all lol. The field that we do obedience and agility training in is apparently rife with ticks and a number of people in my class have noticed their dogs with ticks after training so I am going for a preventative method this time.

so I will be ok giving my boy 2 of the up to 25kg ones. Thanks
Do check the expiry dates as i know frontline can go toxic after a while, don't know about advantix but would be wary of using anything like that after its expiry date.

I didn't know that. They are all 2012 expiry dates but that is useful to know, thanks.
