Hi all, my puppy is 16 wks old and seems to have an intolerance/reaction to some foods. She was fed Royal Canin by her breeder, but as soon as she arrived (9 wks old) had lumps, almost like small boils, come up on her head, neck and back. As her coat also started to fall out in patches on her neck and back, the locum vet decided it was mange and treated her with Advocate. At the same time, I switched her diet to my adult dogs Oscars Herring and Potato, and by the following day, the lumps had gone right down, and were no longer an angry red. Since then I have briefly tried Hills and Eukanuba a couple of weeks apart, but the lumps reappeared within 12 hours of the food being introduced, and I stopped feeding them. Her hair has completely regrown, her bowel movements are normal, and she's never been sick. Any suggestions of what may be causing this?

It sounds like Hives, I think its probably as common in Dogs as it is in Humans but is known as Canine hives (canine urticaria). Sounds like yours is deffo coming from food alergies. You could try feeding BARF or James Wellbeloved which is hypo-allergenic and is supposed to reduce the risk of allergies. Our's suffered from dandruff so we switched her onto JWB Ocean fish and rice and she has been silky smooth and flake free ever since! Better than Head and Shoulders.

What is in the foods you've tried that isn't in the Oscars Herring and Potato? Rice, chicken, maize?

I have a bitch who comes up in hives and I have had her tested and chicken & rice to name a few were her problem areas. I now feed Challenge Salmon & Potato Performance and my bitch has done really well on it. i didn't even change her over gradually, just one meal to the next.
She was fed Arden Grange Prestige.

I've checked the labels, all except Oscars have chicken (though even that contains poultry fat), beef and pork too in one, wheat, maize, gluten, and a host of additives, that Oscars doesn't. However, I have just brought some OrganiPets puppy, and 36 hours in, no problems at all, and she loves it- even more than the Oscars. I should have mentioned she wasn't keen to eat any of the other brands except Oscars, so there is obviously something there that doesn't agree with her. The Organipets is a chicken food, though it's free range, organic, human grade chicken meat, rather than the rubbish they put into a lot of dog food. Thanks for your help, I will also check out your other feeding suggestions.
