Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Weird season?

My bitch is 3 years old.  Up till now, she has had normal, 3 week seasons every 6 months without fail.  Last year she had a great litter of puppies and so we decided to have a repeat mating this summer.  Problem was, she came into season a few days before we were flying out on hols for a week!  Anyway, We are friends with the stud dog owner who happily took her in for a few days but she showed no signs of being in season at all.  The stud dogs couldn't have cared less!  We collected her as soon as we came home on Saturday and the swelling had went down and no blood loss at all.  Well, yesterday I lifted her onto the grooming table and she had started bleeding again?  Today, her vulva is much more swollen and she looks like she is coming into season?  I don't understand?  And now I have no idea when to mate her?  My stud boy is showing some interest(he's not the one we will use but he has a good nose) but he's not at the no eating and whining stage.  Today would be her 16th day and that is when we got 5 puppies from the last time.  Should I take her to the stud even though she's not standing?  Or should I count it as a new season and start again?  Any help is gratefully recieved.

Start again, sounds like it was a false start.

That's what I was thinking as I think the stress of us being away has brought her back out again.  She such a big wuss!  But I'm glad I'm back for her as I hate to leave my girls to go through any of this process without me by their side for reassurance.

PS  Sorry about the mention of the breed.  I didn't realise it was not allowed.(blonde moment)

OK well she has not bled again either yesterday or today.  I have checked her several times yesterday with a white hankie and agin this morning and nothing.  I think I'll miss this one and wait till her next season now.  Far too confusing!

Sounds very much like a split season doesn't it?

If her hormone levels aren't high enough, I agree, try next time round.  (And Good Luck.)  :-)
