just wanting to know who keeps track of their bitches during their pregnancys?  how much weight do yours put on?

my bitch has gone from 33kgs to 38kgs and still has 5 days to go,  in my breed she should put more weight on in the last week, i have only increased her food a little bit and my breed mentor said she has never seen a bitch from the breed get to 38  however she does weigh more than the average bitch in the breed.

I've never kept track of any of the bitches weights during pregnancy.  Only time they are weighed is if they have to visit the vet for any reason.  Last girl was a section and she weighed 4.9kgs before the section two weeks later when she had her stitches out she was 3.9kgs.  Her normal body weight is 4kgs.

I've only weighed my bitch once during her pregnancy and that was last week, just out of curiosity and 'cause we had a routine trip the vet so we made use of their very nice scales! She's got one more week to go and has gone from just under 20kg to just over 26kg. I'm happy and the vet was happy with that. She is not fat (tell by her rib feel) and most of the weight gain, apart from growing pups, will be fluids. So compared to this I should have thought the gain your girl has is perfectly ok :-)

thanks trialist, thank goodness, she doesnt look fat but we were getting worried,  she only looks to have 4 or 5 pups so hopefully they arent too big

I've been picking my girl up the last couple of weeks to put into my van ... I was rather alarmed at her weight then, and my back was feeling it!! Mind, I think she's developed lead legs, she is just a solid weight and gone from 'helping' when being lifted to 'no, you do it all on your own'! Good luck with the birth!! Exciting, isn't it?!

thank goodness mine is still (just) managing to jump into the car, 38kgs is just a bit too much for me LOL.
and yes its very exciting with many other words to describe it, unnearving etc.  i just cant wait to see the colours and sexes  etc.

So it seems that a bitch can put on around a quarted of their usual body weight during pregnancy if yours went from 20k to 26 - i know most bitches in my breed go from around 50k to 60 during pregnancy - so a fifth of body weight.Interesting - do you just increase daily meals ?

glad you found this post piratebear :-)...my girl has about 18days to go she was 33kg before mateing and is now 37kg she looks all belly but it rock hard! and the last 2 weeks is when most of her weight will go on so i dread to think what shes going to weigh at the end LOL ,she been on her normal amount of food up to now ive just started to increase it so the 4kg isnt down to food ,i increase bits each day so that by the time she has 2 weeks left she will be on 600g-650 aday :-) xx

Not throughout as such, but I did weigh her a week or so before birth, then weekly while she was rearing the puppies, so I could check by weight as well as look and feel whether she was getting enough food.
