Hi, my husband and I are looking for a minature schnauzer puppy. We understand it is Christmas time, but we ARE NOT looking for a Xmas puppy. We are looking for a litter that may be available around Feb/March 2003. We have been eagerly waiting for 6 years until our work and living situation is appropriate for bringing a new puppy home and loving and providing for a faithful friend for the long term!
Our problem is finding a breeder that are keen to talk to us and help us. I have had difficulty making contact at this time as the breeders I have spoken to, think we want a puppy for Christmas - this is not the case, we are just in a position now that we can provide for a new puppy. We wish to meet a breeder that we can form a relationship with and view the dogs before and after the puppies arrive. This is a big decision for us, and we want to be able to have all our questions answered, and be able to contact the breeder if we need.
We do not have children, we live on a large estate and my husband works from home. We live in the Hampshire district, but do not mind travelling to meet the right breeder. I would greatly appreciate any contact from a breeder who may be able to help us in finding our new puppy, or at least point us in the right direction.
Please email us at gefadi@firenet.uk.com
Look forward to a reply, and thank you
Dianne and Geoff Iredale

I would imagine that most breedersare being ultra careful with the tume of year, and due to the exposure the breed has had due to TV advertising. Try contacting some breed club secretaries who will know of bitches just mated, or pups newly born, that won't be available until after the festivitues. If you explain things as you have here I am sure a breeder will follow up your enquiry.
Breed Club details can be obtained from the Kennnel Club Tel. 0870 606 6750, and there may be breeder and club details on this site, if you go to the main site.

I was going to say the same thing, contact the Breed club secretary now and explain the situation to them as you have here. Puppies to be ready at the time you want them will be born December/January and the club will be able to pass on any details as they get them.
Good luck!

I have now registered so I look forward to exchanging info with you guys. Thank you for your replies, I did in fact call the secretary from the Schnauzer Club of GB - but only got an answering machine message - I hope she returns my call!
I could not help but notice, through reading other messages posted, that Minis seem to be very much in demand.
Why is it that responsible dog owners like ourselves seem to be penalised (ie find it so hard in purchasing a dog from a good breeder) while other irresponsible people get away with acquiring dogs and mistreating them or not provide for them as they should?
Thanks again for your advice - will keep you posted - in the mean time if any mini breeders read this, please get in touch with me, many regards
