I have three bitches in the house,i have one male.the easy solution is to neuter the male and be done with it.BUT my reason for neutering the male is so he doesnt whine when the bitches have their seasons.
so my question is....(hes three years old and been used.....)is there any chance the neutering will stop the whinning and weight loss ect ect i have to send him away and i miss him terribly.so i think getting him done is best.
any advise or experiences would be great!

It will probably improve to some extent, but he may also still mate and tie -several of mine have done once neutered. Some forget all about it, others never do.

he will be neutered no matter what but i was just asking so i know wht can happen....
i suppose the main thing is he cannot produce after a while so thats a definate plus,then theres the fact that he has to be removed from the house because he wont et and loses weight,we keep them all seperate at season time but with three bitches its far to often to have to send him away.ill get him done and see how he goes,hopefully for his sake it changes.

There is apparently a chemical implant castration around now that last for a few months. If you've got any reason not to neuter then it might help you see if it makes any difference to his behaviour.

I have a male lab, he was fine when my bitches were in season until he was used, then he went absolutely mad during her next season (ripped the front off the kennel door she was in and expensive injection ensued....!)
I had him castrated and he has been fine ever since. he was 5 at the time.

Have you thought about injecting the girls to stop them coming into season if you are not planning to mate them? I haven't used it but have heard people at the shows who have with no ill effects. I often wonder how hard it would be if I kept a boy- an all girl household is easy but sods law says at some point the best pup in the litter will be male and I'm not sure I wouldn't keep one if that was the case. Good luck whatever you decide.

I know they are all different but the experience with my boy is once he was neutered he showed no interest at all in my bitches when in season.
Maybe we were just lucky though.
Also when there are puppies he is the only dog that my bitches will allow in the same room.

I neutered my 5 year old entire male due to similar problems.Although I dont have an unspeyed bitch in the house anytime a bitch in the neighbourhood came into season he would whine and become very unsettled.He was also very confrontational with my other entire males and was never 'settled' in himself.
We decided to retire him from the showring and castrate him as a last resort after trying 2 types of chemical castration...neither which had worked.6 months after the castration the difference was amazing and now(approx 12 months later) he is a different dog.He is so much more settled and less stressed,never whines after bitches and is completely non confrontational....hes happier and so are we!

Happened to me back in the 70's!  It was a Toy Poodle, and, in my wisdom I had decided that I was keeping a bitch from the litter.

She had one pup - a boy!  :-)  Yes, I kept him!

My neutered Yankee was never used and he still gets interested when Ellie is in season, but only to the point of sniffing around her and occasionally considering mounting, but immediately stops if you tell him. So he is safe to be around her as long as I am there, I would not leave them alone just in case. If you don't want to neuter or spay any of them, is it possible for a friend to have him while the bitches are in? Or do they all have drastically different cycles so that you'd be farming him out half the year!

sorry not answered no replys ive been really quite ill.but im all better now,thank goodness.
iv hadnt heard of the implant for my lad,i might try that first!! as he is an absolute angel and doesnt mind other dogs at all,hes as playful as a pup! the only reason for neutering would be the three bitches.they all come in one after the other.i have tried sending him away but the house just isnt the same and he'd be out of the house too much and too long.
anyone know the name of the implant as im probably better to try that before i go drastic measures.
