Just wondered what you all use for weighing pups.  I've always used a standard kitchen set but they're not great and as soon as the pups get above a kilo, the scales wobble about too much.  I've heard some people use postal scales, does anyone here?  If so, which kind as there seems to be lots!  BTW, they will be for small/medium breed puppies.  Thank you!!

I have some digital kitchen scales which I got from Lidl - they seem great so far. They have a reasonable area to place pups....

I put them in a bowl on the digital kitchen scales (small breed). When they get too big, I stand on the digital bathroom scales with and without them, like I do for the adults.

I've invested in a set of Mebby baby scales.  Seemed an expense but they are well worth the money.  They have a large flat bowl which has easily taken my 7 week old pups weighing 8 kilo.  I had been looking at 'baby scales' on ebay - if you have time you may get yourself a bargain there.

We use the kitchen digital scales for the first couple of weeks, when the puppies get bigger and too wriggly for the scales we use electronic fishing scales (bought especially for our last litter).  When puppies get too big they go on the bathroom scales, human and puppy, then human and subtract.  We've found that the digital bathroom scales aren't specific enough when the puppies are small, hence the fishing scale.

I've just bought a very good set, not dear that weigh in kilos and pounds that go up to 5kg.

It has a large flat area for a pan and today at 6 weeks I used the large 12inch feeding pan to stand puppy in while I weighed them.

It is a 'Salter' model 6005 weighs 5kgs/11lb max in 5g/1/4 ounce gradations.

It is Electronic digital.  Dimensions are 9inches x 7inches x 1.5inches.

Hi i uesed kitchen scales but puppies are getting to big for them so i bought a new nylon sling for my husbands fishing scales and it works a treat.  The sling is similar to the kind midwifes use for weighing babies so the puppies just lie in it and dont riggle which is great.

Simiar to LucyDogs for me.  I have toy breeds, and bought a pair of digital kitchen scales to use just for pup weighing.  I use a bowl, and find the accuracy is great for tiny sizes.

For my adults, I do use digital again, as I like the accuracy, but they are bathroom scales, and I weigh me, and then me with the dog.

Then immediately forget my own weight, as the shock could kill me!

I have a set of 'baby' scales, like the ones midwives use, they weigh in 2grm grad up to 25kg!!!  Not that I've ever seen a 25kg baby.....lol.  Even my adult dogs would fit in them (if they would sit still long enough)

Wow, thank you so much for all your replies.  I must say I like the idea of the 'midwife scales' just don't really know where to get one for the best price (my midwife wasn't keen on lending me hers!).  Anything is an improvement on what I have at the mo!  I'll go through all your suggestions, thank you x

what my friend used and told me to do the same is use a set of digital bathroom scales and use a large dish or tray you would use for cooking a turkey/chicken

bathroom scales are not accurate enough for baby puppies, fine if you only need to know within 100g for older pups for worming etc.

That is what I used when I had scales that only went to 2.5kgs, only thing is they only weighed to nearest 4oz.

In my original post I said that we use fishing scales once they get too big for the digital kitchen scales.  Our fishing scales go up 1g at a time.

ive always used digital fishing scales with a old pillow case to weigh the pups, from day 1 better reading because pups asupported in the pillow case they wriggle less last litter of 9 i could get over and done with with less stress to both pups and myself in about 15 mins, most of the time was me quickly writing down the weight of each pup. Got mine for about 5 pounds of ebay and still going strong 4 years on and friends have also borrowed them for litters.
