Often litter size isn't too relevant. I would take the runs as your best sign.
Bitches clear out prior to giving birth - perfectly natural.
The majority of mine go into labour within 24 hours of loose motions. I only ever had one girl with the runs for 3 whole days before. Although it was a perfecly natural self whelping, I was a little concerned that she had gone too long. But, of course, they do it to make us nervous wrecks! :-)
I would say that your girl is getting close, so don't leave her. :-)

Thanks ive never let her out my sight all week been sleeping with her as well, she give no warning on her last litter was just getting a bit anxious about the amount of mucus she has been leaving all over .

Try not to get too concerned about the amount of mucous (all bitches vary.)
As long as it is clear with no smell, it is normal. Green with a pong and I would be straight at the vets!
It's an anxious time isn't it? So wanting everything to go right, and impatient for things to start! :-)
I am sure that everything sounds fine, and you will soon have the patter of tiny paws. :-)

I have a bitch who had clear stringy mucus to excess for the final week before she whelped. She went on to have seven good sized healthy puppies that never looked back so I wouldn't worry to much as long as its clear with no offensive smell.

well that has put my mind at rest about the mucus . guess it will be any time so just have to sit back and wait for the fun to start THANKS.

well just came bk from vets after having her checked over there want to see puppys in nxt 12 to 24 hrs .

Good luck Kevinsdogs. I was vey lucky with my bitch - she had a loss of appetite for a few days before and then just went into labour very quickly and quietly with no panting or anything. It was a couple of days early by my calculation but all is well so far... I hope you get to have some sleep soon !

Thanks gema her last litter she give no warning and was early this time shes been totally different you just feel sorry for them vet wants me to give her a call at tea time to see how shes going .

How are things going? If she hasn't started proper contractions, as it's gone on for so long, please keep an eye out for inertia, and don't let her wear herself out.

we had her checked out yesterday by vet who said she was fine and that this stage can last up to 24 hrs but with her not been a old dog expect 12 hrs she wasent dilated either she phoned us bk yesterday tea time and said everythink was normal how she was behaving , she is resting in between her panting and digging ,vet phoned bk today and said she was still happy at the way she was going and didnt feel the need to intervine im still keeping a close eye on her but the way its going i dont think its going to be long keep u updated .
