What do you guys find are the best boots to wear on muddy dog walks?

I found a hole in mine yesterday, need a new pair. I quite like the look of the muck boots but they are quite expensive :o

I used to wear walking boots (shoes) but seeing as I usually have to wade through long grass to find the ball I need something more like boots/wellies, but was swaying away from 'normal' wellies due to them being uncomfortable/cold and wearing out quite quickly.

The muck boots are expensive but sooo comfortable :-D

Muck boots are worth the money but feel quite heavy if you are used to normal wellies so they take a while to get used to. Have a look in the sales for some - they sometimes sell them off on equestrian sites.

I wouldn't worry about how heavy they are, my old pair were a pair of mens rigger boots, my calfs are like lead from carrying them about all through the winter :D

That's a good idea with looking at equestrian sites, will check that out now.

I'd also vote for Muckboots, but make sure you get the Derwent variety as they've got a non-slip sole. I made the mistake of going for the Tweed and spent most of my walks trying to keep myself upright as I slid through the mud and wet grass!

Thank you pedlee! I have spent most of last night looking at different brands, nearly settling on muck boots and not having a clue which ones to go for.

The derwent ones aren't as expensive as some of the others either :)

Definitely need non slip variety with some of the muddy tracks we have round here.

My O.H bought me a pair of Dubarry boots 3 years ago,and I just can't wear them out!!!!!!

I'm wanting a pair of Aigle... Lovely and comfy and very similar to the Le Chameau, just these ones fit :-)

I had a pair of ordinary Hunters that lasted nearly 20 years, so treated myself to a pair of Hunter Sovereigns last year since we seem to live in the mud 340 days of the year--they are fantastic.

Muck boots here too - love them, the most comfortable waterproof boots I've ever had :-)

Muckboots & the shoes get a vote from me too. Lasted a lot longer than Hunters or Barbours.

I have muckboots and Dubarrys, i love muckboots, there fleece lined.
I bought my Dubarry's this year, and they are most comfortable boots I have ever owned!

I quite like the aigle boots too.

Decided on a pair of muck boots though for now, obviously a lot of fans here. Found a £40. pair on eBay, bumped up to £46 with delivery, cheapest Derwent I could find.

Thanks everyone :)

I'm still wearing my Karrimor snow boots I wisely bought last Autumn, they are like a higher type walking boot but have a waterproof section which keeps feet nice & dry.  I got mine from Field & Trek on the Internet.

If you do a lot of walking, wellies can be hard going after a while and don't support the foot as well as a proper walking boot.    I walk for 3+ hours every day so mine really get road tested.

Another vote for Muckboots-they're expensive, although not as expensive as some, but last. I've had the Derwent version in the past, and they're fab-ridiculously comfortable, almost like long slippers! Currently got the Tyne version, but they're not as good. They're more supportive than the Derwents (main reason I got them as my right ankle's weak), as there's less neoprene, and the soles are brilliant in thick clarty mud-they slip on most wet mud other than that though-especially when just the very surface is moist. I've also had Tretorn wellies before, which are pretty good (not a patch on muckboots though). Done the rigger boots too-nice and quick to get on but ended up with sticks and allsorts getting stuck in them because of the gap round my leg!

My aigle boot are very comfortable but wether it's me but I always loose my socks which end up down by my toes!

I would recommend Muck Boots too...but hopefully you're not allergic to them as I turned out to be - I had a nasty reaction to the neoprene and still have scars on my legs a couple of years on.

I also have the boots Christine mentioned above (Karrimor Snow boots) and can highly recommend those as well.  Really comfortable, good grip in all terrain and keep your feet nice and cosy on cold, wet days.

Dubarry without a doubt
- By Dribble Date 17.06.10 23:53 UTC
These arrived today, I can't believe how comfy they are. Not tried them out yet but they are a good fit, so much better than my rigger boots lol

Don't think I will regret buying these (I actually got excited waiting for these to come, is there something wrong with me? :D)
