What are people's thoughts on this? I have had a litter of 10 and they are all the same colour with no markings etc. I would like to be able to identify them individually so I can weigh etc and make sure all are feeding sufficiently etc etc.

I also had a litter of 10, all the same colour and only one of them being a dog puppy, so I found the collars invaluable. Not only did they help me identify the puppies, but it was nice for the new owners to be able to look at the photos on the CD I gave them and identify their own puppy from early on.

Oh brilliant. Where did you get them from?

Thanks

I use standard double knit wool.

One strand put around the neck and tied in a knot, leaving the two ends to make a tag.

This is then easy to pick out in photo if you go for bright and contrasting colours.

I leave about two fingers width of growing room, and change them probably weekly.

By the time they could catch on anything once mobile their weight (unless tiny bred) would break the strand.

I used to worry about strangling, but many many people have used this method in my breed and others.

We had a litter of 8, all brindle apart from one pied, the collars were invaluable, not only for weighing etc but when they were older the new owners could see "their" puppy without the continual "which one"?? We got ours from www.puppyidcollars.co.uk (not sure how to do links on here so hope that worked!!)  I phoned to order them as I had a couple of questions, not only was the lady very helpful but also very quick at sending them (next day).

when i went to get my ollie, they simply put tip ex on their tails, mine had two blobs.
It doesnt hurt them, or annoy them, and it comes off after a week at the most so just keep them topped up :)

I wouldn't use anything except the original TabBands.

Too many copycats around nowadays, jumping on the bandwagon with inferior products.

I have used these collars  www.pup-id.co.uk with great success - makes identification so easy, although I don't start using them for the first two weeks or so, I start off by using the paper type ones which I replace every couple of days as pups grow so quickly.

Hi JeanSW,

Are you able to let me know where these are available from?

Thanks

Yes Gema.

I get mine from Petcetara.  You won't find them in the catalogue though.  I phone and have them dispatched the same day. 01948 668100

Very good customer service on the phone, and I have used them for years with toy breeds, without any problems.  They are from the US and were really for use in hospitals, but were such a success that they were evenually made for vet practises.

When you have something like Yorkshire Terriers - all the same colour - it's nice for people to know for sure that they are collecting the pup they chose.  You can write on them too, ordinary biro is fine.  I swear by them, the quality is super.
