Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Blood test to confirm pregnancy
- By danielle-k9 Date 11.06.10 21:45 UTC
Hi

Im thinking about getting the blood test to confirm pregnancy done with my bitch and just wondered what everyones thoughts were as Ive never had it done before.

How accurate is it?
What time is best to have it done?

Thanks x

friend on mine had it done and it was right that was 6 years ago.

You may find that most vets don't stock the test and it will work out very expensive to get them to order a one off.

Also it isn't accurate until later than most current diagnostic methods(palpation and Ultrasound).

Also if you have one like mine who needed sedating to get blood for her Rabies titre test (right wriggle butt), you may not want to stress a possibly pregnant bitch that much.

My vets said they do it but didnt give a price. She is great at getting bloods done but my vets dont do ultrasound so I have to use a different one. I thought it would of been less stress free to use my normal vet but I think I may opt for scanning.

Thanks

I wish they would develop a simple urine test you could use at home.

I had this done a few years ago now it was done around day 30. It cost me £30 at the time and the result was correct. It said she was pregnant & she went on to have 8 pups.
