Topic Dog Boards / Health / Hip Scores where to go?
- By peanuts [gb] Date 29.03.10 16:44 UTC
Hi all , i normally go to Marilyn in Southampton but after breaking her wrist she is not doing any large dogs for a long time so any suggestions?
Won't use my vet as they don't do hips?

We use Hampton Vets (Ewan Bryson) Malpas cheshire, he is fantastic, predicts scores acurately and lets you help lay the dogs out, no GA, he sedates them.

Oh Peanuts thats not good, i was going to call her to arrange my boy to be done...
I'll keep my eye on this with interest... So anyone in the south who does it under sedation at a reasonable cost would be helpful!!

I always use Ewan Bryson myself .
- By susieq [gb] Date 29.03.10 18:07 UTC
Ewan Bryson here too, but then I'm lucky enough to live 5 mins away : )

Is Dorchester (Dorset, DT1 1DU) any good for you?

Verity Griffiths (Southfield Veterinary Centre) does hips under sedation.  She did one of my dogs and I know other owners who'll recommend her too

How much does this one charge?? Many actual vets seem to charge very high prices compared to Marilyn..

ETA: I'd be getting hips and elbows done too.

I use Julian Slater of O Gorman Slater and Main in Newbury and have done for several years now, he's brilliant and I've always had good scores.  Uses sedation.

I can highly recommend Verity Griffiths at Dorchester aswell.  Have been to Southampton previously but now wouldn't go anywhere but the Dorchester vets.

Sue  - I used Southfield Veterinary Centre (Verity Griffiths) in Sept 08.  £100 for the x-ray & sedative with another £35.40 paid to the BVA for scoring

Peanuts - if you have a look at one of my earlier posts, I put a link in so you can have a read about Southfield and get their contact details

Julian Slater 01635 47170.  Hips and elbows were £260 but hips alone obviously going to be a lot cheaper.  Give them a buzz and ask they are really helpful.  Make sure you ask for Julian to do them though if you do go ahead and book.

DAB,

Thanks will look into this place now.. Always good to come on here for recommendations..Though there is no actual rush to get them done soon...

Hi Peanuts
Mike Guilliard at nantwich vet is good , he is also doing the penn hip scheme at the moment he offers free bva scores if you book penn hip with him
- By Gemini05 Date 01.04.10 09:33 UTC
is that £100 for hip and elbow x-rays? or is that per x-ray?
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 01.04.10 10:00 UTC
Newfienook how much is it then for the PennHip?  Though my next dog for hipscoring isn't due until November when she's one LOL!

There was a vet in Oxford mentioned in the dog press who only uses sedative. Will have a rummage & see if I've still got the piece of paper, probably 'filed' somewhere.
- By suejaw Date 11.06.10 13:25 UTC
If you could find the one in Oxford area that would be great.
Finally managed to get through to her today and she is saying she is still not doing large dogs as her wrist isn't good and give it yet another 2-3 weeks.. I don't want to keep waiting on her tbh, but depending on what other prices come up i may just have to do this..
- By WolfieStruppi [gb] Date 11.06.10 16:16 UTC
Haven't forgotten about this as I would like one of mine done shortly, I'm still looking for the illusive piece of paper Sue!
- By Jolene [gb] Date 05.12.10 12:56 UTC
Any details for the hip scoring in Oxford yet?
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 05.12.10 21:01 UTC
I ended up going to Mike in nantwich, he said her score would be 9 or 10 came back with an 8.
- By Alfieshmalfie Date 05.12.10 22:56 UTC
How much do Nantwich charge? Is that the veterinary hospital?
- By WolfieStruppi [gb] Date 06.12.10 00:37 UTC
Sorry Jolene, the elusive piece of paper hasn't surfaced yet.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 06.12.10 08:37 UTC
THink it was £135 for a medium sized dog.  Cheaper than my own vet last year.
- By Jolene [gb] Date 06.12.10 09:37 UTC
Where is Nantwich?!
- By NEWFIENOOK [gb] Date 06.12.10 17:08 UTC
