Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / day 59 near to whelping ? (locked)
- By tishee [gb] Date 09.06.10 11:32 UTC
hello everyone
my girl is now on day 59 (yippeeee - as you know we lost 2 litters last year so over the moon we have reached this far) (i will add for those who may not know my dogs are health screened with clear/good results) well as i said day 59 and for the last 3 days she has been loosing a small amount of vaginal mucus/fluid she is eating but less than usual, having intermittent bouts of panting, and other than that she is a very happy lady - we are very ready for the puppies but i am worrying.. not sure what about either - part of me thinks im just being impatient and the other i am very worried that things might not be going to plan :(.
her mother had her 1st litter one week early with no signs at all other than a stringy mucous 15 minutes before having pup number 1 and that was it.
her vulva is very very large the largest i have ever seen in a pregnant bitch near to whelping - does it sound like i just need some reassurance? i have felt movement this morning - im very paranoid that i may be missing something     - is the small vaginal loss over 3 days normal ? i have not had many litters to compare and answer my own questions - she has normal bowel movements
any help advice reassurance would be greatly appreciated xxxx
thanks in advance

S xx

It all sounds normal to me (as long as the vaginal loss is not green or red) and I count day 58 as the first possible day for pup to arrive so don't leave them for a moment then. Good luck! :)

Hello Tishee,

It all sounds very normal to me.Several of my bitches in the past have spent a few days beforehand shredding but saying that i've just had a bitch whelp 3 days early on tuesday with absolutely no sign except the odd shiver and not eating breakfast.

They don't seem to read the same book we do sometimes do they? lol

Wishing you and your girl a very easy time of it x

the waiting game is horrible isnt it :( ,but then i think its the worry once their born that knocks you down and tires you out more ,as you both will soon have but worth every sleepless night when things are going well :)
- By kevinsdog [gb] Date 10.06.10 16:10 UTC
it is a worry mines taking to panting all the time and wanting to be out to clean her self so hopefully wont be far off but there never do things straight forward do there .

i was up for 3 nights with my bitch before she had the pups, was totally shattered, they are 6 days old now and im still sleeping on the sofa at the side of them, my back is killing and the lack of sleep is a nightmare but it is all worth it in the end :)

Sounds very much as if they are going to come soon.  But, of course, she will wait until the wee small hours, just to keep you on your toes.  :-)

She certainly sounds as if she's getting there.

Hello

I am pleased to announce we have had 8 puppies 6 bitches + 2 dogs - waters broke at 12.30 last night and she finished whelping today at 11.30 - the last was a little respiratory compromised but she got through it and was a very weak feeder but persistence is the key and has now caught up with the other 7beauties
thank you for all your help and reassurance - i  really needed it xxxxxxx
kevinsdog how is your girl coming along ?
