Topic Dog Boards / General / new breed??

I had hipscores come back today, and for the 1st time ever they included a sheet with the BMA for every breed. Therefore imagine my shock to see labradoodles included in the list!!!!! What on earth is going on? Have I missed something?! :(

They've been on that sheet for years already Sam, and at least it means that hip scores for them are being recorded.

In the January 2006 list 18 had been scored; any dog can be hipscored - it's just the classification of mongrels and crossbreeds can be difficult.

I'm glad it's on there just a shame the GP don't know about it, few crossbreeds on there and their hipscores are not that desirable!

I heard that after 3 generations they can be 'registered' thus a new breed?????? Is this true

No.

Not registered with the Kennel Club, anyway. In the registry of Mongrels R Us, anything goes.

NOPE.  At least three generations of a breed from another countries is needed to even be thought about having a KC registration and breed standard set up.  I know of one very old breed from another country that hasn't been accepted yet and it's recognised in a number of countries.

No.

As an example Silken Windhounds were 'conceived' in 1975, the stud book was closed in 2000. Every pup is dna tested. All breeding stock has to be passed as being of sufficient quality to pass on their genes & of course they are rigorously health tested before they are granted second tier registration (ISWS), necessary for breeding. The International Silken Windhound Society have a closed stud book and complete histories of every silken born but they are not recognised yet by our Kennel Club.

Thats good, I really don't think we need more breeds when older ones arent recognised yet!!
