Hi

My friends 2 year old collie bitch has suddenly started with an eye problem. Well, it may be related to something else we're not sure (and neither is her vet).
Her third eyelid on both eyes is flicking upwards, giving her a spaced out, cock eyed look ? She seems fine in herself, but has vomitted white froth and it is affecting her vision, judgement of distance etc.
Her vet has suggested an allergy to something and put her on Piriton but it's not getting any better. The vet admits she never seen anything like it. The only other thing we can find is a small wound on one of her toes, which is sore to touch, which may or may not be related.
Any ideas gratefully accepted

Forgot to add she also has itchy skin

She has a vet's appointment for tomorrow and has tried to bring this forward but they are fully booked.

Any help, suggestions you can give would be gratefully received.

Hi thanks for posting for me H,  this is my dog and she is going back to vet today at 4pm, nothing has been ruled out the vet was stumped, she maybe thought allergy to food,bite,atmosphere...and gave me maxitrol drops(her eyes were a wee bit red but not gunky) which have had no affect and I have gave her Piriton from Monday afternoon twice a day which I don't think have helped. She has only been sick white froth yesterday at 2pm and she was pawing her mouth and eyes. She is running around normally although she isn't judging distances properly maybe due to the fact that her 3rd eyelid is in the way. Any advice is greatly appreciated and I'll let you'se know how I get on at vet.

Hi
just back from vets with Luna and the vet said its not tetanus as she has no other symptoms and as shes had it a week so she'd probably be dead now if it was....aren't I glad it's not!!
She has referred Luna to Glasgow Vet School neurology department as she thinks the muscles aren't working properly and the only thing similar she has seen is a dog with Horners Syndrome where it only affected one eye. She said she wasn't overly concerned and it could go away over time!! Unusually Luna didn't want her to touch her head area so maybe shes a wee bit sore! If anyone has any other info then please let me know and i'll let you know how she goes!

Sorry I have nothing to offer, but you and Luna have my best wishes :)

It's nice to know what it isn't : but knowing what it is would be better !

There was a thread recently where Horners was the initial diagnosis - later ruled out,  but might be an informative read

I have a 2 year old GSD with an eye problem, it must be nearly 3 months now since the symptoms started

eye bulge (not now)
very large pupil dilated
eye looking to one side
slight discharge
very sore looking
occassional pawing of eye

2 initial diagnosis have since been ruled out, Horners and slight glaucoma. My vet could not help me any further so referred me to an animal health referral centre in Manchester.

To date this specialist thinks probable trauma to the orbit which should resolve itself in time, or possible nerve infection (not yet discussed in any detail)
