we took our boy for a blood test at the vets this morning for his hemo test ,new vet there i hadnt seen before and a student ,well the student was asking about the test and looked at his hip scores and said wow has he is 0-0 then turned to ask the vet was why he needed this test ,the vet siad so we could charge more money to stud him out :-O i nearly dropped to the floor ,i very quickly turned and siad NO its to make sure we inprove on our breed ,the cheek of her and shes a vet LOL
Vets seem not to be very knowledgeable about breeding, don't they
My sister asked the vet about breeding her scruffy crossbred terrier bitch and the vet told her that these types have less health problems so didn't see any reason not to breed a litter. She hasn't as she's been ill and she won't be anyway after doing research on sites like this but where do they get their information from?
god only knows!!!
"crossbred terrier bitch and the vet told her that these types have less health problems so didn't see any reason not to breed a litter"
shes not at the same vets has me is she LOL ;-)

I'v just heard another horror story about the vet we used, just got the basics but, this vet "butchered" a G.S. bitch for an emergency hysterectomy, don't know if it was pyo, but apparently the bitch was so traumatised that she won't let anybody near her! Our girl is due for worming so i'll be using that as a chance to phone round and ask about questions.

Mine did phone me up when one of mine was on the table being x-rayed for scoring to say that he had a chipped incisor, should they remove it, no thanks unless it is going to worry him I wish to show him, OH! Right, he should move well his hips look very good, are you sure you don't want him castrated. What is wrong with them, touting for business or did they have a trainee standing by.

Although our Vets are brilliant there is always one isn't there that you just don't have any faith in. In my last litter I had a puppy that just seemed to be being a bit loose and was sick once so wizzed him off to the Vet and saw this one. She asked was the worming up to date, 'yes', what was I using, 'Drontal puppy'. she then said 'okay, but does that do everything', I was looking at her oddly when she said, 'well, for instance does it do roundworm, tapeworm etc' I answered well no not tapeworm but she didn't continue with the enquiry so I just let the subject drop. In retrospect I should have said, 'don't you know, as you sell the product'. But as for the breeding side, I find so many Vets just do not have the same experience as a good breeder.

I wouldn't expect my vet to be as good as an experienced breeder, we must remember a vet usualy only see's dogs when they are sick and many don't breed and dont know the specificas about all breeds of dogs. Luckly one of ours does breed and is very good infact he got more excited about our hip scores than we did LOL. On the Flip side we have had some terrible and I mean terrible vets.

when i took my litter of pups in to thevets the other day to be checked over, one of the assistants made sure he was in with us as he owns the same breed and was smtten with the pups :D i havent had a bad vet yet and havent heard any bad stories about any of them so far
> very quickly turned and siad NO its to make sure we inprove on our breed ,
0,0 is a brilliant hip score. I'm assuming you are now showing your dogs, white lilly, to know you are improving on them?
yes we show 2 of our girls and our boy :)
One of my vets told me I could microchip her when i bought her in for spaying. I'd never indicated that I wanted this. i think she thought i'd be complient and bring my baby along.
Nice hip score white lilly

One of our vets (must have been a trainee or really rubbish, not there now!) said we should breed Warro 'because he has a good temperament', not a word about health testing or conformation! OK, he comes from good lines, but he didn't know that. In any case, he's much better suited to thinking he's still 6 months old lol.
