well i have bought my scales (a tad late i know) and weighed the pups, the smallest is 814lb and the largest is 1257lb, is there any thing i can do to build the little one up? i was feeding him by hand for the first 2 days as he was slow at learning to suckle but now he is feeding from mum. should i carry on giving him feeds inbetween him feeding from mum to build him up? he is a little fighter and the most lively one out of the litter

I would try not to suppliment too much as it can give him the trollops with his tummy having to cope with 2 types of milk, if the bitches milk flow is good why not let him feed for a little time on his own then let the others feed after.
Bottle feeding is really a last ditch attempt to feeding as the bitches own milk is so much better.
They are huge lol. Do you mean grams. glad they are doing ok and he has all the time in the world to grow.

ok i ment 0.814 lb lol
works out at 484g smallest and 703 largest
new scales *rollseyes*

Normally Pound setting on digital scales will e lbs and ozs. Do you mean 8oz and 12oz?
Have never seen pounds shown as a metric fraction, as pounds are divided into 16ths not tenths.
What is the average weight range for your breed? With my own breed it is 10 - 12oz, yet my current litter the little one weighed in at 13oz, so your pup may not be that little just the others large as the litter is small?.

truth be told, me neither!
thankyou for making me laugh on this cold wet morning ,you sound just like me ;-)
I have a large breed and 484g would be considered a good weight, so I don't think you have anything to worry about.

given the number of sleepless nights you have had, I think you can be forgiven for being slightly muddled with the figures - but the baby elephant comment was funny :-D

I'm pleased you've managed to get him to suckle , I personally wouldn't keep topping him up now if he is happily feeding from mum.
I'd just make sure he gets onto one of the back teats. I bet he catches the others up in no time , so don't worry about the size difference.

another thing, the largest pup seems to be always laid on her own a couple of feet away from mum and other pups, she is by no means being pushed out, its her that keeps crawling away from them then going to sleep, should i be worried about this? all the others huddle together to sleep but she is always on her own
i wouldnt worry all 3 of mine wouldnt sleep together :)

Thankyou for making me laugh! :)
