I hate the darn things and spent what felt like forever last summer pulling them up.. Most of which i thought i got right to the root, well obviously not.
This year they are back with abundance and yet again i'm back trying to get them out of the ground.

What i wonder is if anyone has any tips to get rid of the blasted things once and for all...
I'm happy to put something down to kill em, but would need to be safe for the dogs and also some other plants(not that i'm bothered about the other plants right now) but someone else is..

They're doing my head in too! Some growing here are looking more like triffids. The roots go underground a long way & I've not found a permanent solution so far. Roundup kills the plant short term. In April I used something called Grazeon from Scats which you have to sign for - supposed to kill everything but grass. After 3 weeks the nettles & brambles are all brown so we'll see how long this lasts. That was one advantage of keeping goats, they did eat the nettles!

Several years ago our local authority was considering leasing a cute little street-cleaner type machine that used superheated jets of water to get rid of chewing gum, graffiti and, yes, curbside weeds. I was much taken with the sales pitch that included a reference to weeds wilting instantly and a smell of gently boiled cabbage wafting down the street...so depending on the scale of the nettle bed you could try watering well with boiling water--no toxic residue, although I'd be unhappy about scalding worms.

Our nettles have taken over a bit this year. I have developed a bad allergy to them so can't pull them up any more because I break out in blisters.   I'll let you know how we get on after I've dumped the kettle contents on them (I let the nettles flower first for our bees).

My father hated the weeds and nettles in our garden as a child, and was always threatening to buy a goat! Not sure it would have helped the rest of the garden though.
