Topic Dog Boards / General / New pet insurance?

My friend's dog insurance went up to £98 per month with Argos so someone suggested she look at a pet insurance which I'd never heard of - vetmedicover . co . uk
Not heard of them before, are they new? Anyone had any dealings with them? They seem extremely cheap!

I've not heard of them but the first thing i would check is that if provides cover for life, not just a maximum benefit or per year.

Seems to be per year £10,000 but they will cover for life for valid claims it says so a bit confusing - you also have to get the vet to phone to approve any treatment or they may not pay the claim according to the quick glance I had at the terms. They are underwritten by White Horse Insurance. Interestingly they don't vary cost by breed or postcode so might be worth looking into if you have a breed that is particularly expensive to insure normally.

They don't seem to cover public liability, or any of the other extras that get added on to other insurances (holiday cancellation etc) just vet fees so may be worth while for those who don't need all the frills - excess is £80 though.

I'm looking into changing my boys over, they are on 2 different plans but the amount i pay each month is too much..
I'll watch with interest on this.
As far as i'm aware most companies now do a max amount for each condition per year, thats fine by me as long as they cover any condition for life. Most max is now £12k per annum. They've done this as most conditions don't reach this amount, so PetPlan say...

Check who underwrites them too.  I found what looked like fantastic policies recently, and very cheap, by a new company - just before I signed up I noticed that they are underwritten by E&L who as many people know, are a diabolical company.

Phew!
