thoughts would be appreciated..

The owner of a bitch I bred have waited  for her to come into season for a very long planned  mating with a dog they own ( exellent breeding ) both dogs are shown and I am very excited about this mating myself.

I sent her my matetel tester and she checked her everyday on the 11 day she said the matetel still  wasnt showing anything but the male was going mental to get to her so she took both dog /bitch to thier male dog breeder who has 30 yrs or more experience in breeding/mating etc (top respected breeders in our breed) (she is in scotland 7 hrs away from me)
Owner had also took her to the vet for a pro test vet said she wasnt ready .
bitch was willing , dog willing no mating ..male dog breeder also tried one of her own stud dogs thinking he was more experienced as he has proved himself...still no mating  (  he was second stud choice)..even though both dogs mounted and bitch happy to mate .( this was Sunday).

They tried again Tues still no mating and now the dog they own isnt really interested (today is day 14) .Although the bitch is trying to mount him!
She is convinced now that the time has passed and she has missed the dates and isnt going to try again she is going to wait for her next season.

The vet told her she wasnt ready matetel said she wasnt ready ..stud dog seemed to think she was but couldnt mate ..I am confused ..

Can anyone shed some light on this one for me?? not something I have come across.

roni weve just had the same happening here too ,we didnt get a mating at all :( ive never had this happen before sorry not much help but id like to know if we missed some too...the only thing with our girl is she comes into season every 4months but didnt try our boy till day 10 now im wondering if shes an early girl?

Maybe she hasn't reached the point of readiness yet?  Can't help other than to say my bitch was mated days 15-19 ... stud boy was dead keen, she wasn't particularly keen, but did it, so to speak. She too was trying to mount him, and play, but no tail flipping or anything 'textbook' style. I tried ovulation pads for the first time, they didn't prove helpful. I didn't do pre-mate testing (I'd already spent a fortune getting to this point, I wasn't in a position to spend more!) and I am sooooo glad I didn't, as they would have cost me an absolute fortune.  Stud boy went off the boil, returned to weeing on her rather than trying to mount her (how sweet!). She continued bleeding. On days 27-31 they mated again, she showed classic 'textbook' signs of wanting to mate this time.  She's now pregnant (confirmed) to the second set of matings.

Nature is a very strange thing. Maybe she's just not reached the right stage yet.  I am extremely lucky, I should have been on a course at the time of the second set of matings but I had to cancel last minute. I am very glad I did as otherwise I would have missed this, I doubt my friend she was going to be left with would have picked it up and we'd have had another no show to the first set of matings.

I had this happen 3 years ago.  The stud dog owner was terribly impatient, so I half heartedly tried another dog, thinking I was far too late anyway. 

The second dog was tried on day 18 with no success, and I don't know what made me give it one last go on day 19.  Just the one mating.  7 puppies.

The bitch may well be a late ovulator.

We blood tested one of our bitches last season and she didnt ovulate, and we took her to the stud dog, just out of curiosity to see what his reaction would be. He wasn't interested as we expected, so we didnt bother again but that season went on for longer than they normally do and looking back in hindsight, I wish we had taken her back to him the week after to see if his reaction was different and possibly that she was a very late ovulator.

Her litter sister is also a late ovulator, day 19.  So we mated her last season on day 18 and 20 and ended up with pups.

If she has access to the stud dog, I'd be tempted to keep taking her back every few days, even after her season has finished for a while, just incase. At least that way she will know she's tried her best, but if there is no joy, maybe on her next season, she could get her bloods done early in the season incase she ovulates very early.

I find my dogs get really interested through all the flirting the bitch does but it isnt really the correct time to mate. They usually then become uninterested as they are getting no where and then all of a sudden go crazy when its time. Ive just mated a bitch on day 20 (ovulated day 18/19 ). I would keep trying. Are they together all the time as I usually find seperating them until mating makes the dog alot more interested!!

yes they live together. Only problem is she is a novice and is using the stud dog breeder as a mentor and she had been doing the matings.

My girl is very hard to work out - from the reactions of my own retired stud dog and the ovulations tests I've had done, I suspect she is ovulating at a different time each season. However although she always goes 21 days almost exactly for the full season, she only flirts with the boys in the last day or so. And she's (probably) not ovulating then, because when we have had her tested she has been between days 10 and about 17. Also she turns her tail whenever she is touched or stroked there, whether she is in season or not! I wish she would read the book!! :-p

My bitch is on day 5 of her season, the dog we hope to use lives in the same house, but the last two litters she had were by different daddys as Mr D wuldnt perform, my daughter thought he was too much of a gentleman :-)
We are keeping our fingers crossed this time for a result. Both her last litters were conceived on the 13th day, but she was still willing to mate on the 18th day with both males. 

About 5 days of receptivity to mating is about normal, though soem will only mate at the optimum time (a day ro so after ovualtion).

Dogs sperm can live a week in the bitch, though about 4 days it will be most viable.
