I know there are websites where you can buy most stuff as a pack but I prefer to buy seperately just what I need.
hyperdrug tend to sell most stuffhttp://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Puppy-Whelp/departments/46/  and fit and fertilehttp://www.fitandfertile.com/shop/whelping.html .  You can get a stethoscope on ebay for around a fiver.

If you want a list of what you need look on the search feature as this question has been asked numerous times. If you cant find it lets know..

Like starryeyes, I like to put my own whelping kit together.  And I get them all from hyperdrug too.

With a lot of kits that have been put together for you, you will find that some things are only used once, and some never used at all.

I order new Dopram and Nutridrops whenever I have a girl mated.  Naturally, not always needed, but so valuable when they are.  Which means that they are often discarded when the use by date is up.  But for the few pounds concerned, worth having if you have a pup that is weak or has dodgy breathing.

If, as advised, you do a search to find what others have advised as essential - make sure you have a BIG piece of paper to write on!

Its worth checking ebay for whelping kits.  i found a few on there with everything in.  i was tempted then wondered if I really needed all (of course i did lol).

I think I'll try putting a kit together or at least adding up the costs.  As Jean said so things won't get used.

Jean, can you get Dopram without prescription? I know it has to be kept below a certain temperature. I got a bottle last time from our vets and as we didn't use it, it did the rounds for two other whelpings (friends) so as not to be wasted. It's a lot of money really (around £15 from memory) but what price for saving a pup I say.

We didn't get Nutridrops but am going to get some of these also with my next litter.

We're just waiting for my girl to come into season now so I'm making sure I know all the things I need to get...lol!

Ebay usually have very reasonably priced kits, with just about everything you need, which can always be added to as well.

Yes you can buy without prescription.  I just make sure that I bin by use by date.  And many times it doesn't even get opened.  But not having it there, and needing it, would be a nightmare.  I don't think £15 is a lot for the reassurance of having it available.
