You do not say what puppy tins you are using.   If they are hungry they need more food, either milk from mum or a suitable puppy porridge is what I prefer - this you could offer 4 to 5 times a day, including the milk they take from mum.  Small meals and often is what they need, but you do not say what size of breed they are, so difficult to say how much, but on the puppy porridge packaging it gives you the amounts (these are only approximate) and how often to feed.   Pedigree make a good one so do Eukanuba.

Have also answered you on another thread, thought it was me going mad!!

Difficult to give you amounts, if it was a puppy porridge I would offer them a tablespoon each at each meal 4/5 times a day (trying to visualise how big they are) - if they are not hungry they will not eat it, if it is gobbled up and gone in seconds, then offer a little more at the next feed, it should tell you the amounts on the tin, it is a long time since I have used tinned puppy food.   If you overfeed them it usually comes out sloppy the other end.

I FEED THEM TO FULL TINS OF DOG FOOD A DAY FOR 7 PUPS AND IT DOES NOT SAY ON THE TIN JUST IF THEY ARE 2 MONTHS OLD TO FEED THEM THEY ARE ONLY 3 AND A HALF WEEKS

How often are you giving them the food?  Try them on 4/5 meals a day.   I would go and buy a suitable puppy porridge - it is very easy to use and you cannot go wrong with the amount.   If you cannot get puppy porridge then use a suitable puppy kibble and soak it down before offering to them, you can always mix your tinned food in with it.

I start weaning my pups when their eyes open and they are standing, at about 2 weeks of age, mine are a large breed, so your breed should be okay eating 4/5 meals a day, especially if mum is reluctant to feed them.

I have PM you.

Many years ago I was going out for the day and I had a litter of 8 pups, a little older than yours and I was feeding pedigree puppy tinned.   I left my daughter in charge, everything written down, amounts and times etc.   When I got home, she said "after I fed them they looked huge and did not want anything else to eat all day" - yes, you've guessed, she gave them their daily ration in one go and they ate it, how greedy is that?   But they did not come to any harm, all survived although a little sloppy motions when I got home for me to clean up.

I don't think that you will kill them, if eating it then they are hungry :)

I have 5 puppies of 4 weeks that weigh around 4 - 4 1/2 lbs.

They are getting two handfuls (about 4oz) of soaked complete puppy food, this amount 4 times a day, between them.

I would say once soaked it is probably equal to two thirds of a tin of food (but I wouldn't use the tinned other than as a part of their diet).  In addition to this they get a 1/4 pint of puppy milk formula, so a pint between the 5 of them over the day.

They feed from Mum after each meal and whenever she cares to feed them in addition.

I imagine you are not feeding yours enough.

I always make up enough food for there to be a little left for Mum to clear up.

If the next day they clear each meal then I increase it slightly the next day.

Vets are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of animal disease, and unless they breed themselves are not the best person to advise on puppy rearing.

This advise should be coming from your breed mentors (usually someone senior in your breed who is guiding you, often your bitches breeder and the owner of the stud you have used).

Mine are probably eating about half the amount of an adult of my breed, and by 8 weeks will eat as much as they do, and by 12 weeks about 25% more than an adult.

I agree with Brainless that you are not feeding the pups enough, and you should have done your research before breeding.  Or did you really believe that a pups tummy could manage on once a day?

The tinned food you are using will make them pretty loose, and I would be giving a higher quality dry puppy feed (soaked) as well as a variety of scrambled egg, mince, chicken, white fish, sardines etc.

I don't understand your worry about feeding them too much.  The meals need to be spaced out, and a good quality to ensure that they thrive.

You also say that you bring mum in to them.  Doesn't she have free access when she chooses?
