when us humans give birth there is a chance that we could pass poop but does this happen with dogs aswell? just want to know so im ready incase this happens lol
dont think we will be long now, temp has dropped to 98.6 from 98.7 2 hours ago an she is restless and panting a little
- By SharonM Date 02.06.10 14:27 UTC
Usually first stages of labour your girl will be constantly poo'ing, just small amounts, and sometimes they will be sick, so normally have completely cleared out......I've never had one poo as a pup arrived....lol.
- By Moomins [gb] Date 02.06.10 16:20 UTC
No me neither.
- By white lilly [gb] Date 02.06.10 16:29 UTC
no none of my dogs have ever poo'ed when giving bith they get the runs leading up to having them, this tells me its not going to be long! x
- By Carrington Date 02.06.10 18:26 UTC
Ditto,

My girl always has a good visit to the garden beforehand and has never been whilst whelping, have never seen it from any other bitches I've witnessed whelping either so would expect it to be very rare to happen, unless a bitch is not allowed to go to the garden prior, just make sure that you take a torch with you if it is dark out and check the garden every time she wishes to go out, the first pup can pop out anywhere. :-)
- By cb87 [gb] Date 02.06.10 18:34 UTC
we have a huge torch at hand that lights the whole garden up lol, she is really restless now and keeps walking round wimpering and then going digging in her cupboard. her temp has gone up a little from last time i took it, it was 98.42 its now 98.6, is it normal to go back up?
- By white lilly [gb] Date 02.06.10 18:36 UTC
yes it does go back up just before whelping starts! x
- By JeanSW Date 02.06.10 21:58 UTC
Sounds like this is it!!   :-)  :-)

Exciting isn't it?   My girls tend to keep doing loose poos as they are getting close, clearing themselves out ready.
- By cb87 [gb] Date 02.06.10 22:58 UTC
well we have had afew hours of heavy panting and digging but now she has gone to sleep grrr i know i cant sleep now incase anything does happen, her belly has dropped right down now, she hasnt had any runny poops but she has been to the toilet afew times today, and she has been off her food all day, temp has dropped again to 98.78

im so confused about whether it is going to be tonight :s
- By JeanSW Date 02.06.10 23:41 UTC
If her belly has dropped right down, I think you're right to think no sleep tonight.

Welcome to zombie land!  :-)  :-)  :-)
- By cb87 [gb] Date 02.06.10 23:45 UTC
i havent slept much in the past week tbh, but i will stay with her till the end no matter what, shes my angel and my world and she always comes first no matter what, worse thing is she knows it lol
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.06.10 02:29 UTC
ok she is now sleeping with a huge sqeaky toy something she has never been near since it has been in the house nearly a year *rollseyes* i am shatted and was just going to catch some zzzz'ds on the sofa but i only went to the toilet and she was crying for me, she had been asleep all night up untill that point, i think she is teasing now :s
- By white lilly [gb] Date 03.06.10 06:30 UTC

- By white lilly [gb] Date 03.06.10 06:37 UTC
the ripping of paper is due to her having pain so does sound like its not long now :) x....my pups are 5weeks old on saturday and im still sleeping on the sofa LOL SLEEP whats that :( ive forgot what that is LOL x
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.06.10 06:41 UTC
well she isnt panting any more but wont leave her cupboard, iv just had to drag her outside to go to toilet and then she run straight back in after she had been, she is just sleeping again now, confusing lol
- By SavedByAnAmBull [gb] Date 03.06.10 10:57 UTC
I have NOT got a clue about labouring dogs.. But I have got 2 kids, sounds like early labour??? Very confusing for any woman.. Human or canine I should imagine!!
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.06.10 11:04 UTC
i have 3 children but things are very differentfrom when i gave birth lol
- By SavedByAnAmBull [gb] Date 03.06.10 11:09 UTC
Guess it depends on personality, some are naturals, some aren't, I definately was NOT lol ;p
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.06.10 13:02 UTC
she has been shaking now :) im getting excited now but also pooping myself incase something goes wrong :s
- By JeanSW Date 03.06.10 13:08 UTC
If she's shaking you dare not leave her.  Wow you are going to be one tired bunny when this is over.

She is frightened herself and natural that she went into panic mode when you went to the loo.  Once proper contractions start I won't let them go more than an hour before phoning the vet.  And totally ignore said vet if he says give her a couple more hours.
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.06.10 13:19 UTC
she hasnt been left alone for over a week now, either me or my partner are always with her, she is fast a bloody sleep again now though grrr shes just teasing me lol
- By JeanSW Date 03.06.10 13:25 UTC
I know it isn't easy, but do try not to let her pick up on your state of mind.

Try and stay calm for her, however frustrating it is (easy said), she needs your support right now.

It does sound that she is dozing to rest between pains.
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.06.10 13:26 UTC
im keeping myself on the pc and not taking too much notice of her, she is sleeping beside me atm
- By white lilly [gb] Date 03.06.10 14:09 UTC
pups today then ;-) ,good luck xx
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.06.10 14:11 UTC
oh lets hope so lol
- By itsadogslife [gb] Date 03.06.10 14:22 UTC
Good luck for the impending arrival of your girl's babies, if she hasn't started by tonight, perhaps you could get a single mattress and lie it next to the whelping box. One of us spent the couple of nights before our girl whelped and the following 4 weeks sleeping on the floor next to the box. It was close enough to put a comforting hand over to mum if she needed it...

How exciting, I hope all goes swimmingly....!
- By cb87 [gb] Date 03.06.10 14:34 UTC
i have been on the sofa for the past 3 nights with her, not that i have slept much lol i had 1 hours sleep last night on the sofa while my partner watched over her, im rather awake though now, must be the excitement lol i have packed the kids off to nannans for the past 2 days so they wasnt running around, not that she was the happiest lol she just thinks that dogs should be left alone to get on with it there selves :o shes not an animal person and doesnt like dogs at all, she wont even come in the house when she drops my kids off, i'll be awake with her to the end now no matter what, i couldnt chance falling asleep and something happen, i'll just have to keep the kettle warm lol

thanks everyone for all your advice

should i carry on taking her temp now?
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 03.06.10 16:29 UTC
