My friend is a ckcs breeder and has the stud, she has a in season bith for a few days for breeding,  i have just popped over for a coffee to let her know what my vet had said and i i tried to leave, he tried to got to the female who was in another room and he went beserk at me, really snarling and snapping at me foot as i left the room, is this normal, she never battered an eye but i got the fright of my life, never seen such aggression in a ckcs before!!!

All the stud dogs I have met in their own home (not many, mind you ;-) ) have been all too happy to meet me :-p Even when I haven't had a bitch with me. So I would be worried about a dog that acted like this. Especially a CKCS.

I would certainly hope that it's not normal! None of my Ridgeback boys who were used at stud have ever behaved like this. I wouldn't want to see any breed of dog used as a stud dog that reacted to a person like that.

Have to say that sort of behaviour is not normal, the bitch owner may have to hold the bitch with their face right up against the dogs head, this would worry me, worry me a lot.

I have been in very close quarters to a stud dog during a mating, with him breathing right in my face, as he had one front leg locked around my arm before turning in the tie, as I had been steadying the bitch, LOL

No I would not want such a dog used for stud purposes. 

I have actually had other peoples stud dogs come to stay with me, to mate my or other peoples bitches.  I think it is 6 different males now, and all have been perfect gentlemen with people coming and going, and the same has been true of studs I have visited, in my own breed and in dobermans in fact there is a lot more hands on with handling the mating pair and not a murmer..

Thanks for the replies, i have actually been to the park with her and the kids today so questioned her about this and she says he is really snappy but when a bitch is there he wont let up, apparently the bitch is not willing but he is getting very grumpy with her and rough, i asked her why she is breeding him if he is like that and she just shrugged!!!

I actually thought about using him with mine last year but after i read up on breeding i did not have the bravery to do it, his pedigree is fab and has some lovely dogs on his pedigree and is all tested, but i bet the bitches owners dont see the aggressive side to him!!

Mind i do find the whole household very hands on, even with the children so is it something he has learned to use to protect himself??

Blimey no, a dog like that should not be used, let alone a CKCS. If the kids have made him like this, that's very sad. :(
