Hi Everyone,
I have a litter of 6 day old pups (not advertising admin all sold) I have just come into them with mum (she popped our for a wee and some breakfast) to find one of the little girls very listless. she was fine earlier this morning, but now she wont suckle. We have never lost a puppy before like this, so I am very worried about her. It just seems so sudden, she is one of the bigger girls too and was strong and feeding well up til now? I have given her a small amount of glucose water in the hope it might perk her up a bit. She also seems a little shivery so I have put the heating up and covered her in a towel, mum keeps sniffing her so she knows something isnt right with her.
I always give my girls the CHV vaccine I was under the impression this vaccine helps protect the pups against FPS which I am worried this pup might have. I am not sure what to do for the best whether to just keep her warm and continue with the glucose water and see how she does or do you think it might be worth popping her down the vets is there anything they can do when pups go like this?
Any advice appreciated, I dont want to loose this little girl.
Thank you

Straight to the vet and see if she needs antibiotics.

I would whizz to vets too just incase she has a temp. Hope you get on ok xxx
Hi
I had a very similar thing happen yesterday. Went up to the vets and she was basically constipated and bloated. She gave her buscopan and some fluids and she was fine within half hour. Get straight to the vets it might be something as simple as too much milk!

Agree with the others. Vet visit pronto. Do you have a heat pad under the vetbed?
Hi Everyone,
Thanks so much for all your replies. I did make up a little whelpi which she did take, put her on a hot water bottle etc..she did feed off mum a litle later as well and seemed to pick up which was huge relief. But took her to the vets as well, so pleased we did as when I was wrapping her up in a towel ready to go I noticed she had a strange smell to her, not the usual lovely puppy smell. When the vet looked at her we noticed she had a slight yellowish discharge from her vulva. He then felt her tummy and said that it felt as though one of her kidneys felt larger than the other and said that she could have an infection, her temp was normal. So he gave her a shot of Synolux and also some to take home (in powdered form). Since then she has fed very well, picked up no end and seems a lot more livelier in herself. So fingers crossed she will be ok.
Thanks

So very pleased for you. With an infection, no wonder she was so lethargic! Bet she will be well on her way now.
Glad to hear she is on the mend! They do know how to worry us!
